meta-ethically, I suppose there is no difference. are there an ethical differences with hunting deer and hunting horse or dog? Probably depends on what part of the world one is raised. I was raised in Florida.

But killing a cow by knocking it unconscious and cutting its throat or cutting off the head of a chicken hung by it feet is sporting?
would you rather see those animals killed by hunters killed the same way as we do cows and chickens?

In my posts I differentiated sport from meat hunting. If your post is not meant for me don't quote me in it.

I've never known a hunter that will kill an animal and leave it to rot every hunter including me will either consume the kill or give it to another that will and that includes these trophy hunters
as a matter of fact the state I live in its against the law to kill an animal and leave it

You are a bird/squirrel/deer hunter. Hunt away and good luck to you. My point stands even if you don't get it or want to acknowledge it.

you should be required to field dress and take home all the meat of any animal killed.

killing endangered or protected species should be a capital offense.

when will mankind learn to respect the Earth?

I don't condemn hunters. I condemn trophy takers and 'displayers'. they irk me. must all irks be explored and justified? discourteous drivers irk me, too. as do vain and pretentious people. I muddle through.

Horse is a far superior meat compared to beef. Much more nutritious and lean. I don’t understand why we haven’t started wild horse hunting to be honest. Would be a great way to feed those with food.

I've got the head of a 12 point buck hanging above my fireplace I killed about 20 years ago and I also ate the meat it provided all winter long
you do know it isn't one or the other it can and the vast majority of the time it is both
killed for a trophy and consumed

they do round up wild horses when they become over populated and either sold to be broken or killed and used in dog food

I think Nevada once permitted people to shoot wild horses. not something I could see myself doing. at all. now I think BLM keeps the (non-indigenous*) population in check by capturing them and adopting them out.

    * Horses were indigenous to North America until nature offed them a few thousand years ago. they were reintroduced by European explorers. Nevada's wild population are descendants of ones 'that got away'/were abandoned.

I am dead set against big game hunting of any kind unless there is proven massive overpopulation. Just a personal choice.

Of course the easy solution is for these African countries to ban it.

Old guys have equalizers, or should.

The older I get the more trigger happy I become. Got less to lose.

Many a cowboy has eaten his own horse. Meat is meat and there's nothing better to fuel hard physical work and primitive living.

you don't need to explain yourself to me. I don't need convincing. it is what it is. I once hunted deer for food and was thrilled when a big buck ventured into range...total adrenaline rush. I get it. and when I did take a big buck, the local wild game butcher* either kept the head, or I'd give it to a neighbor who made custom knife and pistol grips with the antlers.

*He was the local butcher, but would butcher wild game for a few dollars before he cleaned up his tools at the end of the day. he also had a large separate walk-in reefer for deer and wild hogs.
