Last Muse, I tried to make the best of a bad situation and how I would navigate Biden's puppet decision making to at least give the appearance of a stable WH. Today, I take over as Trump's campaign manager and stir the campaign to victory in 2020. To win in 2020, we need to identify 3 strategic targets:

1)How to keep the base strong, while also appealing to moderates and centrists
2)How to convert left-leaning Democratic voters over
3)How to point to the President's strengths and not his weaknesses.

Let's start with #1. His Mount Rushmore speech was a great speech in terms of outlining what the base finds acceptable and what it doesn't, and is an outline for America as we/the base sees it. But it didn't do enough for moderates and centrists.

Trump seems to misunderstand his base, it's not the overtly religious that makes up the core of his base. Rather, Trump's base is drawn to his ability to be everything to everyone. Trump's pro-rust belt policies attract moderate democrats, and for Trump to win in November it's crucial to continue to fracture and not allow the revival of the Blue Wall(the coastal cities as well as Pacific California making up more than 25% of the electoral vote.)

Trump doesn't have to fight losing battles in terms of "religious rights", historically they will vote GOP anyway. And there's not a home for them in the Democratic Party. Trump should see this group as locked up, and focus more on the rust belt specifically.

Trump's power as a President, as elaborated by professor Derchowitz can be used with his re-election in mind. And the SCOTUS has just ruled that basically, executive orders can only be overturned in a certain procedural way(I find that laughable, but it's what the court decides.)

Time to use that decision to his political advantage. Since Congress can't or won't write an infrastructure bill, write an EO that basically is an infrastructure bill. Not only for shale oil, but also other reproductive energies as well. As well as roads, bridges, both university and pre-k12. Maybe even something on the student loan issue. Take the sails out of Liberals by making their policy yours, and through an EO no less.

Yes, it'll sound hypocritical since Trump criticized Obama ruling with a pen but the difference is that Trump gave this Congress every opportunity to act. If Congress can't or won't act, and its in the national security interests, Trump should use an EO to bolster the rust belt and the Northern States. All the meanwhile making clear that the EO is necessary due to the lack of legislative progress in Congress.

This is similar to Trump's actions for farmers, but only now it's for his industrial voters. Give them reason to vote for you, and outline just like in 2016, that their base(democrats) failed to act on their behalf, on requests that were typically Democratic strong points prior but aren't now.

In terms of speeches, Trump's combative nature can be made more appealing, by fighting for more people. This is in line with the proposed executive order. Promote Senator Rubio's fight for paid family leave, and continue to highlight that Republicans are leading that charge. Where are Democrats on such a crucial bill? Likewise, the President should currently back Tim Scott and highlight that Republicans are in favor of policing reforms, where are Democrats?

If the Democrats don't want to come to the table, diplomatically urge them by showing your willing participation and show voters that it's actually the Republican side on the side of these issues.

Once Moderate voters see that you're willing to tackle these issues and have put resources into these issues, the onus will then be on the Democrats to either participate or they ironically will become the new party of "no".

Maybe one step that could be taken also, that would be an extreme step would be to revive the gang-of-8 talks. While Congress has been stymied in providing border security, the President would be wise to make it so that a Republican Senate is the one that passes comprehensive immigration reform.

This was the work of the late Senator John McCain. Republicans have to see it like this: If we have a Democratic House-Senate-WH, immigration reform would be passed that's probably far more expansive then even moderates would like, and probably lacking even more in terms of security to prevent the problem from happening again.

While Democrats could try to pull a Mitch McConnell(Gorsuch), Trump can negate that by pointing out how fervently Democrats wanted this, and now the Republicans are here, on the table to get it done.

A new Gang-of-8 deal has to have more enforceable provisions than the failed 1985 compromise bill. I've often proposed a traffic light system, where Green= A-Okay, Yellow=Immigrants with maybe 2-or-less, maybe 3 at the most misdemeanors where you wait 2-4 years to get approved and red=those with a prior felonious criminal activity or present activity in the US. Get out.

And maybe it'll be a phased in legalization process. We can legalize 6 of the 11 million immigrants within a 6 year window, and the other 5 million in another 6 years. So that by 12 years, the current illegals will all have a form of legal status.

This will help avoid an overflow of present immigration and allow the process to go smoothly.

And highlighting his strengths. Highlight the fact that foreign terrorism has basically come to a halt under the Trump Administration. Highlight the fact that in spite of opposition to militarists and their lobbyists, the Trump Administration has remained dedicated to a peace through strength approach and takes the military decisions very carefully as to avoid needless bloodshed, both abroad and especially the needless loss of American lives.

Highlight the USMCA and the benefits it will bring. Accelerate phone conversations with Japan and other Asian countries to make a new Asia-America trading bloc. If Biden can campaign from his basement, Trump can campaign from his oval office and the use of the presidency to influence the world stage.

Announce an international task force of US-sponsored medical scientists to engage with other scientists around the world to combat the coronavirus. Collaboration is key and important, and being directly involved in something that will make a difference will take away the "he's doing nothing" talking point.

As Karl Rove said, the incumbent President has amazing powers to ensure his re-election. The President just has to be proactive in order to use them, and he needs to more properly identify what he has locked in, and what he doesn't. He doesn't need to throw a bone to the religious voters, he needs to make dents in the city/rural areas so that Biden's not able to pick them off with his years as a Delaware Senator.

Too bad trump is an extreme narcissist and will not do anything but pander to his base between now and November.
He wants the applause, even if it is just from the extreme fringes of his party.

I do think it is ironic that everything that Obama did and was criticized for is now ignored or even praised when 45* does it...
Almost like a significant majority of what has become of the right has zero values...

    Oh well

Trump's "Base" May (Repeat MAY) be able to get him the Same 46.1% that he got in 2016.

    But, not much more.

    Trump is Toast.

So of interest to the thread, would I make an effective campaign manager to Trump? What do you think of the direction I'd take the campaign in?
