White Christian nationalist beliefs have infiltrated the religious mainstream so thoroughly that virtually any conservative Christian pastor who tries to challenge its ideology risks their career, says Kristin Kobes Du Mez, author of the New York Times bestseller, “Jesus and John Wayne: How White Evangelicals Corrupted a Faith and Fractured a Nation.”

“These ideas are so widespread that any individual pastor or Christian leader who tries to turn the tide and say, ‘Let’s look again at Jesus and scripture,’ are going to be tossed aside,” she says.

The ideas are also insidious because many sound like expressions of Christian piety or harmless references to US history. But White Christian nationalists interpret these ideas in ways that are potentially violent and heretical. Their movement is not only anti-democratic, it contradicts the life and teachings of Jesus, some clergy, scholars and historians say.



Throughout the history of mankind, one of the ways to manipulate others by demagogues is to claim to have knowledge of the desires of the Gods or God, and of course, these desires always coincide with their own as noted by Susan B. Anthony. As far as Christianity is concerned, Mahatma Gandhi made a statement of keen insight on those who claim to be Christian:

Maybe Green should convert to Christianity and stop pretending the secular agenda of the radical and bigoted right is aligned with the actual beliefs of Christians.

That's not new. Christians have always been hypocritical and hateful toward everybody that doesn't look, love and/or worship the way they do.

Shunning and ostracization are very common to keep the lemmings in line. This is why it's asinine to suggest systemic bigotry doesn't exist. It's the very foundation of this nation.

I actually agree.

You don't even have to be a Christian or believe in the existence of God to be able to see that Christianity is being hollowed out from the inside.

"White nationalist" beliefs are not the main problem. (That might only be a small percentage of the total problem)

I may be a little biased because I live in a pretty Left-leaning part of the country, but from what I've seen most of the problem seems to come from the other side.
All the Lutheran Churches around here almost seem like they worship "the environment". Many others seem to be preaching "the social gospel" (the Left's same version of "social justice", intended to transform society and bring about a utopia on earth).

And then there are awful persons like Joel Olstein who seem to be preaching "the prosperity gospel" (life is all about the good things God will bless you with on earth).

Oh, by the way, I have been into a mixed Black Church (about 60% black, 40% other) and there was a guest speaker who was railing off about topics that were Black Nationalism, but when he was finished giving his speech, the pastor gently directed the feelings away from that subject and diffused the situation.

 

The Buy-Bull was written by several people over several centuries. If bigotry is a "natural" part of a society's culture, why wouldn't anything written within those cultures be founded upon those human characteristics and societies' pecking order?

Look at today's bigotry and it's the same as bigotry from yesteryear. It might be wrapped up in a pretty bow but it hasn't gone anywhere.

They hold their noses at Trumps failings and support him because his administration actually made us a stronger, more just and prosperous nation without corrupting the people in the process. IOW, Trump is superior to the alternative. Whose fault is that?
