Another month, another mass shooting in America.

This time 20 dead. In a church.

Why does this keep happening here?

Why doesn't this happen in Poland, Russia, Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Romania???

Is the USA just a sick society?

The only difference was motive. The results are the same.

The hostage-takers were the Riyadus-Salikhin Battalion, sent by the Chechen warlord Shamil Basayev, who demanded recognition of the independence of Chechnya, and Russian withdrawal from Chechnya

It was political with demands, not a random attack. It is very different.

    Correct.

It's because Trump is POTUS that LEFT WING ATHEIST DEMOCRATS HAVE DECLARED WAR ON CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIANS.

I'm sure we'll hear "now is not the time" to make any laws that would prevent future incidents like this.

Of course "the time" will be when everyone has forgotten this and moved on to the latest Trump tweet storm

Which, if this piece of human garbage turns out to be a liberal (and it is looking that way), is the equivalent of the rapist blaming the victim.

I will take the risk of assuming that is a legitimate question.

There was a very good answer given by a career lawman on one show this evening.

He pointed out that the incivility in America right now is off the charts, provocative and promoting anger and resentment.

He pointed out that the entertainment today is loaded with violence- movies, television, and especially games.

He didn't point out, but I will- that there was once a crackdown on cartoons as being too violent and setting bad examples- such as
The roadrunner and Wiley Coyote. Obviously, those were replaced with much worse entertainment.

Today, we have not just kids, but young adults addicted to games that range from Dungeons and Dragons to Bulletstorm and other computer games that primarily give the deadliest killers the most points. We're training them to think in terms of wiping out "enemies".

Then of course, we have politics which is reveling in a competition of who can come up with the most insulting, the most degrading, the most outlandish things in personal abuse- total lack of respect for other people,. Same game, different weapons. Real victims. It's just another jump to personal use of real weapons.

The lack personal responsibility is epidemic in society today. Self-control is somebody else's job.
Personal responsibility isn't fair, because something else- society etc, made me what I am. Their fault. Denial is the tool of choice.

When you have a significant number of people in a group acting out, looking for trouble- you create a backlash, and a mob mentality.
Violence seems more reasonable in the midst of such conduct, and people feel angry because others are angry- and invariably, a lot less restraint is present. Sooner or later, some of those who think that is how the world is will go over the edge.

Maybe if we as a society returned to some self-respect and civility, some respect for others, a great deal of that aggression would diminish. Every time someone promotes hate and uses abusive actions to try and make "points" like they had just slayed some enemy in the computer game, the reasons for unjustified violence get a boost. You see that behavior on this forum constantly.

One of the differences between America and many other countries is the way we have valued free speech. We know that has a down side, it allows bad conduct- and we rely on social order, social standards, to keep that reasonable. Today, that social standard is being disrespected- and the disrespect is being celebrated; "I have a right to act out and insult whoever I want." We should, as a society- stop tolerating that, and call it what it is- socially unacceptable abuse of the right to free speech. But, we don't.

A little upfront respect for your fellow man goes a long way toward coming together- and we really need to come together. To be rational, reasonable, and tolerant.
We're paying a high price for failing to do that.

    What law would prevent this?

Oh you mean banning all guns. But then at the same time, this guybqas wounded and chased by a citizen with a gun. That's completely invalidates your argument.

Do any of you believe there will be one unique idea in any message on any thread about this mass shooting? I don't. It will be the same members posting the same arguments.

But I will. The extreme graphic nature of Hollywood now - in which mass killers are often portrayed is really cool (like the Joker picture the shooter posted of himself), Suicide Squad and many others has gone beyond desensitizing people to violent but making mass killing something that can be enlightened and cool to do. Hollywood has made it so murderers can be in the hero role to be admired. This, combined with the incessant raging of the global corporations and super rich' MSM creates a climate seductive to some flawed personality types.

It does happen in those places but the media there isn't entertainment and it's sensibly regulated. Here in the US mass murders are presented in a way that appeals to morbid curiosity and are always politicized. In eastern countries when someone goes berzerk it's not televised out of respect for the victims and their families and if anything is reported the name of the murderer is omitted so as not to give their fifteen minutes of fame. If you want entertainment with your news advocate for televised executions.

A group of armed Chechen militants seized the crowded Dubrovka theater and took 850 people hostage. At least 170 people died in the terrorist attack.

Because we have guns. Why are mass shootings talked about so much? Less than 1% of all American homicides happen in mass shootings.

I think banning assault weapons is a good idea. Banning semi-auto's is my preference but unlikely
