Many deny evolution but do any still deny that the earth orbits the sun? This is an honest question. If you're a Christian who denies the heliocentric theory (or know one who does), please feel free to explain how you reconcile your beliefs with everything we know about the solar system.
All people who understand the science of gravity deny the heliocentric theory. The earth and sun are orbiting around a central spot (the barycenter), the earth is not really orbiting the sun. Now, that central spot happens to be in the sun, but it's not in the center of the sun. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barycenter
So far I don't deny it but I have yet to give geocentrism a good read .maybe one day I will after I pull myself from my current situation financially
Technically they are orbiting each other. Now, the point of orbit is inside the sun's radius, but it's not at the center of the sun.
Dude all 9 planets orbit round the Sun, the Sun has more mass than the other 9 planets combined hence less dense objects orbit objects with more mass.. Of course moons orbit planets er dwarf planets - which is why Pluto is so weird.
Galileo got in trouble for publishing his heliocentric theory, so I think it's safe to assume that a significant number of the Catholic leadership at the time believed that the sun orbited the earth.
I watched one two hour movie and wasn't convince. It did gave good evidence against the Big Bang though.
well, the thing is, the sun is orbiting each of those planets as well. Saying the sun is what everything orbits is a simplistic view. The real view is much more complex, and basically speaking all objects "orbiting" another, are actually orbiting a common point. That said, for all practical purposes, yes, the planets are orbiting the sun.
The Sun IS NOT orbiting any planet or moon - the only possible way for our star/sun to orbit anything would be a binary star system in which sun orbits it's twin star that would have more mass. Moons orbit planets and planets orbit the Sun and occasionally a solar system will be an extra sun (called a binary system) in which both stars orbit one another... Where did you even come up with your theory? youtube? planet x stuff?
Learned it in a graduate level astronomy class. As I said, practically speaking, it looks as if the earth is orbiting the sun. If you start doing the calculations, you will realize that the earth and sun are orbiting a common point (the barycenter). It is exactly like a binary system, except that in the case of the earth/sun system, the barycenter is somewhere in the outer part of the sun. If the earth were truly orbiting the sun, the barycenter would be at the center of the sun. The concept of the barycenter is part of how we can surmise the existence of outer planets. Each planet orbiting effects the way the sun wobbles. Here's a NASA education site that explains the barycenter: http://spaceplace.nasa.gov/barycenter/en/ http://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/188650/do-the-planets-really-orbit-the-sun http://www.realclearscience.com/blog/2014/08/technically_the_earth_does_not_orbit_the_sun.html http://www.realclearscience.com/blog/2014/08/technically_the_earth_does_not_orbit_the_sun.html http://zidbits.com/2011/09/the-earth-doesnt-actually-orbit-the-sun/ This is just basic astronomy. As the last site says:
