Across the great divide that is Canada, time stopped for a few hours this morning, no one breathed for a few seconds as the only true and serious debate began; the line up for Canada's Men's Olympic Hockey Team. The mere shame of Nagano has the talk shows humming where the Great Gretzki was not included in the shoot out and we did not take gold. This is an impressive list, Crosby is having another stellar year, and the inclusion of the red hot Dan Hamhuis and his style of play will rattle the Europeans. And being slotted in the 'B" group means heavy competition from the old rivals, Sweden, Russia and the US. Not calling this one. The US has some great coaching to bring to the table, not to mention talent, and Russia and Canada have played blood feud hockey since the Canada-Soviet Series in 1972. I am, though, predicting the gold will go to one of those four, Sweden, Russia, the US or Canada
Maybe the Hanson brothers will come out of retirement
I'm a huge hockey fan and a goalie myself. This will be an exciting Olympics. I went tot Toronto for Christmas to the Hall of Fame and a Marlies game. It was a blast!
Thats a good bet...unlike salt lake city and vancouver this tournament is being played on the bigger international ice, this what the russians grew up on as well as the swedes and fins...in a short tournament can the americans and canadians adjust quickly enough to the different game of the bigger ice...
Hey guys- some of you may know that I'm a goalie in a few adult leagues here in Chicago. Well, I just got invited to play in the the Gay Games in Cleveland. While I am gay, the two teams I play for here in Chicago are all straight guys. There is a mostly gay team that plays in my leagues, so I got invited by them and accepted the invitation. I'm really excited. The games are held every four years like the Olympics. They happen in August, so I will be 47 years old at that point. This is probably my last chance to compete in something like this. The next one will not be for another 4 years and will be in another country. I honestly don't know if I'll be playing goal at 51, and I most certainly won't be traveling to another country to do it. I'm from the Northeast Ohio area, so my family is excited to be able to go see me play. There will be teams from all over the world. I can't wait. Here's a link to the games: http://www.gg9cle.com
Huge fan. Russia will be motivated on home turf, Sweden is really strong and the US is also solid. But, I look at Team Canada and the depth is unreal. I think every team can field one superstar line, and a couple of superstar defencemen, but Canada will have 4 unbelievable forward lines, and their defence is awesome (Subban is the 7th man). If they can figure out how to play together early and not get suckered into staying out of the defensive corners like in Nagano they will win.
Watch any of the women play? I think its about provincial A level, but entertaining at times and there's some seriously talented ladies. Think the US will win. Kessel's sister is terrific.
What a finish to the gold medal game for Women's hockey! Character win by the Canada! Looking forward to tomorrow's game. Go Canada!
i like hockey but its like baseball, boring to watch on tv but fun to watch in real life.have only seen a minor league game a couple times before in the past.
