I'm sure that thread title will raise eyebrows... But really, it's about music gear and those in the know will recognize the term.. My current setup is: Korg ESX Roland SP404 Alesis Micron Alesis MicroCompressor Korg Kaossilator Sony WM-DC6 Tascam 424 mk iii Bheringer Xynyx 802 Korg ER1mkII Korg Kaoss Pad 3 I'm also an 'obscurist' in terms of gear... Some examples: PSP with PSPSeq, PSPRthythm, Beaterator PalmOS Tungsten T3 with Bhajis Loops and Sunvox 3DS with DS-10+ iPOD with Beatmaker and Nanostudio (and dozens of other specialized Apps) For PC, I have: ReNoise Reaper Anyone else here a gearslut?
Guess no one here's a gear slut...thought I'd ask, though. In any case, random vid of crap I've made using my electribe: JUNGLISM WARNING: EXTREME JUNGLISM ALERT
That looks really fun, what's about the cheapest rig I could put together that would enable me to do something comparable? Just referring me to a helpful site would probably be enough.
Hey cool! Gear is fun! I think you're looking at the cheapest setup right there. ESX used runs around 300$ used or 500$ new. The Kaosspad isn't required or anything, but you can get one for as low as 100 dollars depending on the model you get. There's also the Roland samplers (which I also love) such as the 505 (used around 100-150$) and Yamaha RS7000 (100-500$ depending on condition, used as well). If you got lots of questions about gear, PM me and I'll let you know from the best of my knowledge whether it can do what you want and if you get a good deal. I would start with used gear first before buying new stuff. Plus, a lot of used gear is very capable and gets discontinued for memory issues and nothing more but can still rock the house in the right, dedicated hands. Hit me up! All prices in USD. I don't know the prices in russian currency.
OH! One more thing, if you're looking for the tactile feedback and nothing more, this might be what you want... I don't like being tied to the computer myself, but if it doesn't bother you, it may be what you want: http://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/maschine/production-systems/maschine/ It's a controller with specialize computer software. So your computer's processor dictates how much you can do and the controller allows you to do it. Also if you're looking at specific hardware that catches your fancy check out Youtube performances to get a feel for what it can do. I do this before any hardware purchase!
One last thing to be aware of: Just like buying a guitar doesn't make you Jimi Hendrix, buying groovebox doesn't make you Chemical Brothers or Skrillex. You get out what you put into them.
Whatever that might mean. I hope you deserve the benefit of the doubt, that its not something mean spirited.
Gear lust and gear slut...here's how it's defined... Imagine you're a woman...you want a finely chiseled man, has all the right muscles and all the right hair... You're a gear slut if you are the woman as a regular dude looking at a piece of vear, say a Roland Phantom... It's just so SEXY... Being a gear slut means having gear lust...similar to you males having images of those girls on TV in bikinis or images of Scarlett Johansennn doing rude things to you..imagine that but as a musician....and those thoughts are instruments doing naughty things... - - - Updated - - - You don't know what you're talking about, go away. Thanks.
Just ignore them, all these comedians out of work and still they try... Besides, it's better if you leave it plugged in, cleanup is a (*)(*)(*)(*)(*) but the sound is fantastic... TY for the advice. I will haunt ebay. Any more from you or anyone else is much appreciated
Hey, don't be a (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*). We all get along better when you just don't be a (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*).
http://bureiksu.net/misc/hs-roederville4.mp3 80's style crap done without any hardware, except a midi keyboard. Hardware is never necessary, it's just more fun.
