1932 – The German economy was a disaster, unemployment was up to 6 million, German banks were under the government. Spending cuts and tax hikes had the result of increasing unemployment. Families fell apart, tradition was vilified. Neighboring countries, France and Belgium, occupied land inside the borders of Germany. The Germans blamed their failing economy on their own citizenry, and violence erupted in the streets between the left and right. Hitler used his brown shirts to intimidate rivals and disrupt the meetings of competing political parties. Riots erupted in the streets. This destabilization was crucial to Hitler’s rise to power, because it convinced many Germans the once Hitler became chancellor, the endemic street violence would end. The German film industry was famous for an abundance of sleazy films, while musical comedy and burlesque were lascivious – so much so that Berlin was considered the most immoral city in the world. Pornography and prostitution were prevalent and the populace was intrigued by social murders.

So what have we got that resembles Germany between the two World Wars?

Maybe you should tell us because I don't see anything in the OP that remotely resembles 2016 America.

They didn't have nuclear weapons back then.

There will never be another world war.

You're forgetting the part where the Treaty of Versailles pretty much handicapped Germany's military.

    The propaganda machine?

There are quite a few people who seem to feel we are in a declining position. But we don't have politically motivated thugs vandalizing and brutalizing in any organized way.

No, the US is thousands of miles away from where Germany was at that time. Anyone who likens america today to Germany then doesn't know what they're talking about.
No, there is not much resemblence at all.

Yes, porn is an indication of another Nazi regime on the rise.

How about the organized thugs who scream down the candidates? Soros pays instigators something like $15/hour to disrupt. I'd call them politically motivated.

Propaganda has been around for millennia. BLM seem to qualify as politically motivated thugs. So does Bundy's group.

$15 per hour? For a 2 hour event? Desperate times I guess, but you would think such a wealthy sponsor would be a little more generous. Thats about what most people pay their kids to mow the lawn.

Protesters at political rallies are not the same as brownshirts. The kind of organized thuggery they did was not at events where they were outnumbered.

Other than the rights wish for total control of the people at any cost, I don't either.

    Oh, those guys.

They are annoying, but that happens a lot when groups feel they are motivated by an overriding moral imperative. They tend to lose the ability to see their opposition as individual human beings.

    Yup.

Completely different direction than the one that makes sense. These guys live in a reality different than our own.

It was the Treaty of Versailles (along with the Great Depression) that actually crippled the German economy.

There are none so blind as those who will not see. None the less I will try to explain it. Not because I think you'll be able to see the truth, because you do not wish to, but because there are others that once it is laid out for them just might. One we are buried in the sort of moral degeneration that was wide spread in Europe prior to WWII some of it potentially much worse. Not only is homosexuality becoming normalize but Sado-maschism is being mainstreamed as well. Easy divorce and the welfare state along with wide spread promiscuity means a society in which children and women are increasingly devalued along with the nuclear family. Fewer and fewer people, as time passes, believe the country is in a good or even acceptable place, both Bernie Sanders' and Donald Trump's insurgencies speak to that fact. That there are beginning to be violent confrontations between these two vastly different views of the future should surprise no one. Never mind the fact that functionally the two differ only in who will be persecuted. under their auspices.

Pick your precursor state from Rome under Caligula, Weimar Republic pre Mussolini Italy, pre Lenin Russia. It doesn't really matter the comparisons are there for anyone who wants to look.

We aren't there but we are in a similar position where a political takeover and dictatorship is possible. It would come from the right wing. The military sides with the right, as do the police, and their voting block is more likely to be armed. They are easy to bring to anger and value the use of force for pretty much any situation where someone does not comply.

    Pre-Hitler Germany rocked.

All those creamy white thighs and black nylons and garter belts.

The whole Marlene Dietrich (Blue Angel) thing. The whole Cabaret thing.

A great time in world history. What's not to love?
