Are you ‘triggered’ by the joyless, puritanical, xenophobic authoritarians of the left?

What does Memorial Day bring to mind? Those who have served in the armed forces, for sure – especially when that hallowed group of people includes men and women we have known and loved.

But there's something beyond that – something that touches every single one of us, regardless of personal ties to our military. And that is the cause that people in the military served: America.

As an immigrant to the U.S., I think often about this country that I've joined and what makes it special. I'm constantly trying to learn about it – to absorb the stories of America's founding, its struggles, its character, its triumphs and its faults.

No other country, it seems to me, is at the same time so exuberantly confident and deeply self-critical – and that's a source of incredible strength. That's how you make a union more perfect over time.

If there's one thing that defines America for me, it's the ideal of freedom – the notion of liberty under the law that underpins everything else. But liberty is not just a question of law. It's a question of behavior too, and it seems as if America today is in danger of losing something incomparably precious: the habit of freedom.

I'm talking about the freedom to think and speak your mind. More and more, I meet people who tell me they are frightened to say what they think, frightened to get into conversations about politics or current events. They are frightened to exercise their freedom.

There once was a time when the left was the champion of freedom. Think back to the 1960s and the fights for women's liberation and civil rights, the incredible explosion of creativity in music and fashion and art.

But we can see now that not all the consequences of these 1960s movements were positive – especially when you look at the social and economic impacts of the breakdown of the family,

Whatever your view of these revolutionary changes, we can all agree that they represented a powerful and heartfelt expression of freedom. And many of those revolutions were driven by young people, who were overwhelmingly on the left. The left was instinctively on the side of freedom.

But look where the left is today. Why are more and more people in America frightened to say what they think, frightened to express themselves and exercise their freedom?

It's not because of President Trump – quite the opposite. People aren't exactly holding back when it comes to expressing opinions about our president.

It's not conservatives, or libertarians, or Republicans who are clamping down on freedom of thought and expression. It's the left. And it's frightening.

Instead of standing for freedom as it once did, the left in America today stands for control. Those on the left are the new Puritans, marching around telling everybody off for the way they behave.

I agree with the conclusions of the author of the seeded article.

 

I always hear this, but never could figure out why people believe this was the case. Back then, they were straight up communists, just as they are now, and the only difference is that they were fighting for their own rights to be communists. We were in Vietnam, had just gotten out of Korea, the world was full of communists from cuba to cambodia to china to the ussr to north korea to vietnam doing gawdawful things to everybody, and lefties wanted all of that action they could find.

 

Where do you get this stuff from? Is there a creative writing class that budding conservatives take where they are required to make up all kinds of silliness designed to put liberals in a bad light.

Or is this just you repeating the propaganda, demonstrating that you're part of the club.

Don't you guys ever get tired of repeating this made up crap over and over. Don't you ever go outside and get a breath of fresh air.

Don’t turn what the author says about the left on the conservatives. The seeded author is actually a libertarian.

 

The funny thing about this is that there is a very active thread right now where 'joyless' conservatives are lining up to complain about a film none of them have even seen because one of the characters is 'pansexual'. The same people are also whining like little children because the more recent Star Wars films have given prominent roles to women & ethnic minorities. The horror! The horror!

Seems like the joyless, xenophobic, puritanical & totalitarian types around here are distinctly right wing. Of course, one of the joys of ideology is that it allows you to ignore what is in front of your face in favor of a made up world that conforms to your prejudices.

 

Are we allowed to know who the 'seeded author' is, or is it some sort of secret?

 

Complaining about propaganda filled with subliminal messages in order to turn kids into soy boys and lesbians?

I'm all for allowing it, but I should probably endorse it for your kids. I have children, too, and for every ten SJWs who demand safe spaces, cuddle puppies, and staff lunches made from recycled kale and gluten free granola, that's just ten more people they won't have to compete with in the workplace.

 

In case you haven't noticed Libertarians are conspiracy theory inspired right wingers who deceptively use the language of liberals. They lay in the same red muck bed that conservatives do. As I've heard comedians describe them, they're conservatives who want to smoke pot.

In any case your opening post is little more than the usual dribble that comes from the right, and as usual, quite divorced from reality.

No, pretending that because a movie treats people other than straight white men as worthwhile that somehow the world will come to an end. Talk about snowflakes.

The people whining about Star Wars films sound an awful lot like people throwing a huge tanty & demanding a 'safe space' where everyone but straight white guys remain peripheral. People like that are no competitive threat to anyone in a modern workplace environment. I've had a few in my workplace. They are poor employees.

 

It originated somewhere in the backrooms of the Heritage Foundation. There are the ones who feed the right-wing mouths with their material. Their mission has long been to paint liberals in as bad as light as possible. Sean Hannity is their loudest mouth. It is they who prepared people for the wreck that is Trump. Put them in the mindset to accept what he is dishing them.

Thanks. I was going to comment on the overall incoherence of his rhetoric since he still seems to be finding his feet and makes wildly contradictory connections in his rant.

 

This is rich coming from the group who has a complete and total meltdown EVERY DAY over everything the president says or does. It used to be very funny, but now it is just boring and predictable.The Left looks more and more unhinged and stupid on a DAILY basis. And they always turn out to be wrong...

I'm pretty sure they must know that they aren't taken seriously. It's why we have this political divide. It's probably much like how I feel about them, which is not exactly respectful.

We have major insurmountable differences, which are not going to be resolved through debate. That's why they're so dead set on getting rid of our guns.

 

Um, it’s not the left claiming the press is the enemy of the American People and trying to discredit them do no one believes them. That is authoritarianism. Trying to justify otherwise is fooling oneself.

Then you have the NFL having authoritarian streaks as well, forcing everyone to stand for the Anthem when people have long sat or done something else during the Anthem for decades. Sorry, but it’s not the left being authoritarian.

 

What has become evident is that the right doesn’t mind criminals in power now. It isn’t the left becoming unhinged when:
1. Revelations in the Mueller case are labeled as fake news.
2. Conservatives are triggered over a harmless knee to the Anthem.
3. Conservatives are triggered when a sporting goods store discontinues selling deadly weapons.
4. Conservatives burn Keurigs
5. Conservatives unload on people who are Muslim, or speak a language other than English (usually Spanish), threatening to call ICE or beginning a verbal attack on ones religion

And you think it’s leftists becoming unhinged, really?

 

Leftists consistently put themselves in a bad light -- Hillary Clinton's basket of deplorable assertion and the fact that the Left DID NOT denounce her -- coming to mind as one of the most blatant examples. It's just that now the average citizen is really starting to notice what the true heart and soul of the Left consists of in reality as opposed to what the Left inclusively claims, and they are getting heartily tired of the same.

 

Pssst . . . it was announced just this morning that the Left's attempt at social engineering Star Wars has resulting in the movie bombing at the box office. It's gotten beyond tiresome for the Left to ENDLESSLY be preaching to the rest of the nation; especially considering what the Left very often does and comes up with by way of spitting on this nation and its institutions.

 

Problem is Clinton’s Basket of Deplorables classification was correct. You can disagree with it but that doesn’t make it false.

 

That’s really sad that they would ruin something as traditional as star wars to satisfy their controlling urges over our culture.
