If you are between the ages of 17 - 21 and are following all these gun control threads, there is something I would like you to consider. This isn't a debate, it's a political / legal reality so bear with me.

All of these retail establishments along with the president have decided that until you're 21 you should not own a firearm. What strikes me as odd here is that at 17 you can sign up and go into the military and defend this country, but it's another FOUR YEARS before the government thinks you ought to be able to defend your own life.

If you don't like that, you should urge all those in your age group to boycott the military until Uncle Scam gets his head out of his ..........

Virtually every election cycle when Republicans gain any power, the media and the Democrats sensationalize someone else's misery in order to sell gun control and force the Republicans to sign major gun legislation that ultimately accomplishes NOTHING.

    * Under Reagan, he signed a bill to outlaw the future manufacture of fully autos for civilian use - and NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON IN AMERICA HAD DIED FROM A BULLET FIRED FROM A LEGAL FULL AUTO.
    * Behind him was George Bush who banned the importation of foreign made semi-automatic firearms
    * George W. Bush said he would have extended the AWB put into place by Clinton, but Congress did not give him that luxury
    * Today a nitwit, double talking traitor has promised the Democrats the sun, the moon and the stars on the gun control issue - even advocating circumventing Due Process do it!!!

Every time there is a catastrophe, the Ds and Rs do their song and dance routine over gun control and every time it ends with the Ds getting compromises and more gun control. The problem is, IT DON'T SAVE LIVES.

None of the pabulum puking political propaganda prostitutes from EITHERside has informed you that IF the current laws had been followed, Adam Lanza (who committed the Sandy Hook murders) along with Nickolas Cruz would have been stopped BEFORE the carnage began. The laws were in place, but the cops didn't do their job; the county school system didn't do its job; the FBI didn't do their job. And yet NOBODY with the county faces accountability, the cop who turned tail and ran faces no accountability (Hell he gets to retire and draw a pension); the FBI gets off scott free! Why pass more laws if they don't use the current ones to prevent this crap?

Then they single out those between 17 and 21, the NRA, Republicans, conservatives and everyone else that IS NOT RESPONSIBLE. It is time for gun owners to go on the offensive and offer ways to address the issue without gun control and those of you 17 - 21 could boycott joining the armed forces until the gun control hysteria stops and the government holds those who allowed the mass shootings to happen be held accountable AND consider the proposals that would reduce gun violence without infringing on our Rights. No point in serving a country that won't serve you, but throw you under the bus instead of admitting what the world should know.

Had the government done their jobs under existing law, those children would still be alive. You should not be held accountable for the government's failure to simply do their job.

So you are suggesting that a 17 year old should be able to walk into a gun shop and buy a 9mm pistol and an AR?

Should we also allow people to drink at 17 or 18?

I think there should be one age of majority for all things. If an individual is not mature enough to drink and own a gun then that individual should not be able to vote or serve their country.

By the way a person can only join the military at 17 if they have parental consent.

I think that's a great idea. Go to college. A good college degree is worth far more than military training.

The fact of the matter is, young men don't have fully developed brains - esp relating to judgement. The military takes advantage of this but the public doesn't have give weapons of war to young men who aren't ready for that responsibility.

I would rather see the age limit raised to 25 to buy anything more than a small handgun or a shotgun.

Selling 30-round clips and bump stocks to children is just insane.

Am I not leaving that decision up to the people between 17 and 21? If they boycott the military and the government is forced into a real discussion as opposed to a media controlled lynching, we might get some laws on the books addressing the gun violence with gun bans, waiting periods, etc., ad infinitum

My thread was not intended to be a poll, but an opportunity for the youth to think it over and help us force Congress into a real discussion that the left doesn't dominate.

If there is no law against buying a type of gun at 18 how can any store refuse to sell you one? This sounds like the gay wedding cake situation all over again. What if a gay 19 year old was refused to buy a gun.....look out!

Agreed. There is no major national defense issue here so the age, IMHO, should be 25 since that's when most human minds fully develop, but I'll settle for 21. Joining the military can still be 17 with parental consent.

Blocking gun sales to often angry and unstable teenagers is only a start. The minimum age
should be 30, with a one-year wait, and required professional mental screening and
    then two gun safety courses.

Same for voting, smoking and drinking? If so, we can talk.

Why do we have second class citizens. Either a person is an adult or not. Why can an 18 year old vote and serve in the military, but isn’t old enough to drink or buy a gun. Is an 18 year old an adult or not?

If an 18 year old isn’t mature enough to do it all, then let’s make them adults at 21 and make that the age to buy alcohol, tobacco, and firearms, vote and serve in the military.

Retailers have the ability to sell what they want, if they choose to quit selling firearms or to not sell based on age, that is their choice. You can join the military at 17 but you can not fight for your country until you are 18, nor can you be conscripted until you are 18. You can fight for your own life at any time, and a weapon can be used for self defense, that weapon could be anything from your own hands to a brick you grabbed that was laying around. The govt also thinks you shouldn't drink until you are 21. Defending your life is a right, owning a weapon is a right, yet that right doesn't grant a carte blanche on weapons.

Somehow voting doesn't sound as dangerous as owning military-grade weaponry.
You people would love to squelch their voting rights, we know that.

Might as well make it 50. You're probably not within the range of people that this thread is addressed to.

How ridiculous. How many people under 30 (seems to be age you think people should obtain rights) do you think voted for Stalin or Hitler?

You don't want to debate which is worse - a nation of free men or a nation of slaves.

Drinking and guns pose dangers to other people. Serving in the military and voting do not.

No but typing slowly might give you more time to think about what you are saying before you say it so it isnt too bad an idea.
