But they haven't be fitted them with Tomahawk launcher, but they have bought the missiles. So their isn't a threat of being attack by small boats and ship in the Strait of Hormuz. In a recession where they can increase foreign aid to 11.4 billion this year. Yes they are strapped for cash to spend on the navy.

We Americans will sacrifice the Army, and Air Force befroe we'd sacrifice our Navy and Marines. They are the tip of the tip of the spear and are deployable anywhere on the planet within 72 hours.

That ability is the heart and soul of American hegemony on the planet, and we'd cut the Army to the bone before allowing even one carrier to be sacrificed to the budgetary axe.

If only the UK was like that, here the army comes first. When it is the least important part of our defence forces. But the US is cutting it's military and the foreign aid budget hasn't really gone down. Still better than going up like ours, that doesn't even include money that the EU gives to other nation for no reason.

Actually, the Arleigh Burke is not really designed to go after other ships. Destroyers in the modern US Navy are primarily Air Defense Ships. The surface and ASW role has been assumed by frigates, specifically the Oliver Hazard Perry class.

And I would hardly call the Burke class destroyer "average" in the air defense role. This is what it was designed to do, and it has a greater capability in this role then any other ship in it's class in the world. It even has greater capabilities then air defense cruisers in most navies.

The idea of surface ships primarily fighting surface ships in the US Navy largely died in WWII. That is when it was realized that they got much better results useing aircraft (and later missiles) to sink ships. About the only reason that we still have anti-ship capabilities on most of our ships is because of the 3rd world navies, which often use small modified patrol boats to try and slip in undetected.

But generally, the era of destroyers and cruisers lining up and attempting to "Cross the T" are dead and gone.
