NIMBYs whip wind power in court. Even the out-to-lunch NYT notices. http://green.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/03/23/neighbors-win-court-round-over-wind-farm-noise/ They should have built a nice quiet nuke.
Environmental groups such as Friends of the Earth who are anti-nuclear are sometimes lobbyists for renewable energies such as windmills, which is why environmental groups say little about the harms windmills do whether it's killing birds, barotrauma miscarriages in bats, hearing loss & headaches. Sierra Club has taken money from Clorox & they've put their logo on Clorox products though Clorox has been fined in the past for environmental violations. Unsure if the Sierra Club takes money from windmill & solar manufacturers but they are a lobbyist for what was written by me about renewable energies not being green. We need to use new nuclear/atomic power here in the U.S & worldwide, hydroelectric dams (though we've maxed out here in the U.S.) & geothermal to bring down our use of fossil fuels. We must reduce coal & natural gas use-we must save fossil fuels rather than rapidly deplete them.
Nuclear is best for generating electric power. Natural gas and coal (Fischer-Tropsch) should be reserved for transportation fuels.
"best"? For me, best is what works. So nukes are good, certainly wouldn't mind having one nearby. But PVs on the roof, a windmill around the corner, they aren't all bad certainly.
PV is like concrete - it takes a lot of energy to make them. But concrete lasts a lot longer. PVs have to be replaced quite often.
