Cultures are based on ideologies. That religion has very high percentage of blind-faith followers. When your founder has lived a lustful life in power, and from the very beginning the contenders for the top positions murdered each other, the resulting ideology has to be based on fear and hate, which transforms into violence.

Those cultures are very full of hate. Hate does not weigh cost against goal; it just wants to destroy at any cost. It is the nature of Hate that It hates all, including itself. We see that in our everyday life; a hateful person is mean to his/her loved ones too.

When your basic culture is hateful, you receive pain from your family in your growing years, and society, and government all your life. Violent societies do not progress much. This adds poverty to your pain. It is a vicious chain.

Hate is a monster that rises from its own ashes again and again. But since it hates everything, it devours itself, if no other victims are available.

We are a mighty nation, but how do we fight an illusive monster who will not die, no matter how much we destroy it? And being humane we count every life of ours. Wouldn't it be smarter to move out of its way, and let it shift its hate to some other objects? Their factions hate each other more than they hate anybody else. Only for now, the enemy's (ours) enemy is a friend to them each other. Immerging technological advances make it possible for one to destroy more and more. Eventually, our policing strength will get overwhelmed.

Can we identify a strategy for clearing out of its way? We may wind up experimenting a bit. But I think it can be done. It will take one or two, or may be even three generations, to move out completely, but as progress is made our pain will be reducing. Meanwhile, we keep defending our self, as needed.

Pride blinds you. We have been proud for too long. Let us shelve our pride, and be smart.

Whether they want it or not is quite beside the point. The Islamists want it and will fight and die to get it. Meanwhile, those who don't want a caliphate are all pointing fingers at each other for this ongoing murderous mess and no one wants to deal with it. Until recently perhaps..

Because I know the Saudis.. I know their leadership and intentions.. and I know the common people and merchants, technocrats, journalists and students.

Greed driven pride wants to conquer; hate driven pride wants to destroy. The West is so enamored with greed, that we have hard time thinking out of our box. You can see that in all our efforts of countering those extremist factors.

Those people live in such dire fearful, hateful environment, that all other emotions, like power, wealth, piece.., are secondary. They live in torturous hell of poverty (violent society destroys its prosperity) and violence. Their families see constant beatings of the helpless. Their social lords rule with knives of death. Their governments are brutal; thieves get their arms cut-off. Their communities have these traits in varying degrees, but the average is very high. Their hate is evidenced by how callously they kill women and children among them. Theirs is a society of snakes and scorpions. Their craving for relief is so overwhelming, that they dream about 72 maidens in heaven, if they die as martyrdom. That is how they get huge supply of suicide bombers all the time. A happy dream is preferable than the realties of life. They want to bring back their glorious conditions of 7th and 8th centuries AD. They hate life, which includes one's own self. I am sure the royalties worry more about surviving than anything else, in the lands of chaotic violence and hate.

This mess is what the US created, by removing the Iraqi government in a pointless and illegal war. ISIS than spilled over to Syria. The middle east and Europe thanks the US for this utterly massive carnage they created and the millions of people who are on the run, creating security concerns all over the place.

It's by far mostly Muslims who suffer, and by far it's mostly the Muslims who fight against the caliphate. A comment that they are doing nothing, clearly shows you got no clue who is actually fighting who.

Not that I doubt you of course, but out of curiosity what did you do for that 2 decades, because you seem to have moved around a lot in the upper echelons of SA politics, commerce, the media, and academia?

What IS with this age thing Margot? How old are you anyway?
And for once perhaps you can make a substantive statement instead of your throw away lines
You are not the only one on this forum who has lived in the Middle East or North Africa.

    What a ridiculous statement
There are guards and metal detectors at these churches.
The bomber tried to go past the metal detector - was directed to,it and blew himself up as soon as he entered.
The churches had refused to have people patted down
You cannot prevent someone intent on blowing him/herself up.

I think we need to keep bombing them but right now we are deep into debt and can't afford another war. We should ask that this be a group effort with our allies. Without them pitching in I don't see the need to do it alone.

I asked if you had studied with them - studied their brand of Wahhabism with them.
Did you grow up on a western compound in the Kingdom?

    You are too much
I have studied Islam and lived in Saudi Arabia - the school of Islam practiced in the kingdom is twisted, sick and violent.
I do know how these people think.
And I know what kind of doctrine they have been exporting to the west and to moderate Muslim countries.
    Violence, bigotry and racism.

I am Muslim but certainly don't recognise the Islam I was taught in today's world. If this is Islam then I need to think about converting to Judaism.
General Sisi states that Islam needs a reformation and he is correct. He has stated this in at least 3 speeches as well at Al Azhar.
Every Muslim who loves their religion should denounce often and loudly these people who call for only death and destruction.
Start with those adherents and apologist for Wahhabism and the Igwan.
And for those states which support them- Turkey, Qatar, and those states which shelter them.
Shame on any decent Muslim who allows their religion to be used in such a way.

DUH! I've no objection to it personally, I'm always pleased when they do; but we're talking here of when they take worshippers with them when if those worshippers worshipped ( ) in their own homes that wouldn't happen to them - there's nothing 'ridiculous' about that, is there? Be both. Be Christian too. If none will accept that then all are wrong.

I'd proscribe all effing religions if I had my way. The trouble they cause, and all because of mindless rituals and a contrived mystique designed to beguile the 'sheep'.

Thanks for asking. You seem to care for others. Nice!

I grew up in India. I have been working as an engineer.

I like to read and to think, to figure out who I am - what is the purpose of life. This gives me some empathy and sympathy for others. Nature has given me some ability to figure things out.

I have been a mute witness to politics, commerce and Media. I have never been a teacher.

You are right. Christianity itself is grand. I used the wrong word; "Christianity' has strayed from Jesus. I should have said, Most 'Christians' have strayed from the teachings of Jesus. My apologies.

ISIS can be destroyed by stopping of its money flow from states like Saudi Arabia, Turkey etc.
