It will NEVER be Pearl's fault, but rather the fault of the simpleton masses.
    That about right, Pearl?

Your comment reminds me of an old biker joke.

It was Crazy Michelle and Spider's wedding day. They had a lovely ceremony and everyone wished them well as they hopped on their chopper and headed off for their honeymoon. Several miles rolled by when suddenly the bike backfired. Spider pulled to the side of the road and they got off the bike. Spider paced back and forth beside the Harley a few times. Then he stared at it with a HARD look on his face for a moment and announced, "That's one!"

With that they got back on the bike and continued down the road. Some while later the bike backfired again. Pulls over. Same routine. Hard mean look. "That's TWO!" Off they go again.

A while later the bike backfires again. They pull over. "And that was THREE!" Spider declared. He reaches in the saddle bag and pulls out a large wrench which he uses to give the motor a few hard whacks. WHACK! SLAM!! WHAM!!!

As Spider is getting back on the bike Crazy Michelle says, "Spider, honey, you know a lot more about that bike than I do. But it just doesn't make any sense to take a wrench to it and smack it around like that. I don't know what you think that's going to accomplish!"

Spider gives Michelle a hard look for a moment. Then he holds up one finger and points it at her and says, "That's ONE!"

That is not what atheism is...that is what agnostics believe.

Our government even classified it as a religion. Atheism is a worldview...just as Christianity is or Islam...or Buddhism...or being a Wiccan. An atheist believes the world we live in is all we have...which is basically materialism. Nietzsche, Russell, Feuerbach, Lenin, Marx....prophets of atheism..Darwin the Messiah. Dawkins, Dennett, Harris, and Hitchens...preachers and evangelists.

"They have their own orthodoxy. Orthodoxy is a set of beliefs acceptable to a faith community. Just as there are orthodox Christian beliefs, there is an atheist orthodoxy as well. In brief, it is that EVERYTHING can be explained as the product of unintentional, undirected, purposeless evolution. No truth claim is acceptable if it cannot be subjected to scientific scrutiny."

"A religion doesn’t have to posit a god who must be identified or worshiped. Some religions are polytheistic (Hinduism, Mormonism), some monotheistic (Judaism, Christianity, Islam), some non-theistic (Buddhism). I’d say the new atheists and their religion are “anti-theistic.” But their atheism is religious nonetheless."

    And the clincher is FAITH.

"They have faith. That’s right, faith. They would have you believe the opposite. Their writings ridicule faith, condemn faith. Harris’s book is called The End of Faith. But theirs is a faith-based enterprise. The existence of God cannot be proven or disproven. To deny it takes faith. Evolution has no explanation for why our universe is orderly, predictable, measurable. In fact (atheistic) evolutionary theory has no rational explanation for why there is such a thing as rational explanation. There is no accounting for the things they hope you won’t ask: Why do we have self-awareness? What makes us conscious? From what source is there a universal sense of right and wrong? They just take such unexplained things by … faith."

Unless they can prove there is no such thing as a God...the best they can be is agnostic.

Now people will say that it is not organized but that would not be true.

First Church of Atheism.....they even have fundraisers.

    What does our government say?

Ah, I see the misunderstanding here. You have a different idea of what atheism is from the majority of actual atheists. It's OK to use different meanings of words, thats how language evolves, but it can lead to misunderstanding. Perhaps before going further you should explain exactly what you mean when you say 'atheism'.

Your government (which is not the government of all humanity) can use words as it chooses for official purposes, but that does not make them the correct meaning.

Most western atheists do, yes. But that is not part of the definition of being an atheist. It is technically possible to believe in an afterlife and still be atheist, as long as you don't think that afterlife has anything to do with a god.

In a loose, tabloid, sound-bitey colloquial way, sure. In any meaningful fashion, absolutely not.

I can accept that. Having common customs or traditions is absolutely unrelated to being religious, of course.

Depends what you mean by 'new atheists'. Not having capitalised it, it seems like you're not talking about any particular 'movement', and literally do indeed just mean atheists in the modern era? Is that right? If so, it's certainly not true that it is a religion. And especially not just because you can quote someone who says it is.

To actively state that god does not exist is indeed a leap of faith. Not religious faith, mind you, but the kind of faith I have that my car will start in the morning.

Firstly, thats begging the question: IS the universe orderly? I dont agree that it is.

Secondly, why SHOULD evolution be responsible for the predictability of the universe? The two are utterly unrelated. They're not even in the same field of science! It's like expecting germ theory to explain why quasars pulse.

    Just empty words.

No, I can believe god does not exist even though I can't prove it. Sure, it takes a tiny amount of faith, but I can do it. And it's not a religion.

It's true that there are organised atheists. The question is, are the majority of us in an atheist organisation? I would actually like to know that answer (I suspect the answer is no, though) - if most of us are then I'd have no problem with anyone saying that atheists are organised.

It says lots of things, like how its OK to detain people for years without charge, and how a corporation is actually a person, and other things that make no sense in real life.

I cant understand why you might think that such a thing exists. I could give you what I mean when I say it, if that helps?

Santa is far more moral than Jesus....could you imagine, say "non-Santaists" like Taikoo, Gorn, or Swensson being burned alive due to SANTA'S wishes, just for not believing in the guy? No, I can't. But that's what JESUS has in store for even very moral people who don't throw out their logic/reason and suck up to him and only him. Santa loves, Jesus hates.

Sorry, this multi-quote "Reply With Quote" thing doesn't like me today.
Fixed. They seem to be worshipping Santa in that video, and I guess worshipping that jolly old elf is kind of cool, as he's quite harmless.

    re·li·gion noun \ri-ˈli-jən\
: the belief in a god or in a group of gods

: an organized system of beliefs, ceremonies, and rules used to worship a god or a group of gods

: an interest, a belief, or an activity that is very important to a person or group
    Full Definition of RELIGION

    1
a : the state of a religious <a nun in her 20th year of religion>
b (1) : the service and worship of God or the supernatural (2) : commitment or devotion to religious faith or observance
    2
: a personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices
    3
archaic : scrupulous conformity : conscientiousness
    4
: a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith

For your pleasure. Sure, some atheists if they follow rituals, beliefs, etc could be considered religious.
But many atheists probably don't. And may change their beliefs given new information. So many don't just believe in no God, or have faith there is no God, just go by facts that none has been proven to them and don't participate in any way, shape, or form in any type of organized gathering of said facts.
