I am sorry you are unable to brag about your country that imprisons innocent citizens.
I love bragging about my country.

That's the best you can do?

I don't need to brag about my country.

I understand. People who live in prison rarely brag about their abode.

D-day was a joint UK, American project I understand
Sustained and controlled flight was an American invention
Nuclear had a long pedigree going back to the Greeks, but
America mastered it first, but it was a close call as Japan, UK,
Russia and Germany were all in the race.
Mass production has been forever, but Ford might have got
    there first with cars.
That's what us Aussies were taught, anyhow.

I've been to cities that never close down
From New York to Rio and old London town
    But no matter how far
    Or how wide I roam
    I still call Australia home.

Oooops sorry - you were saying?

D-Day was JOINT exercise... but 80%... 80%.. American... keep grasping at straws
Yup... flight was the Wright Brothers at Kitty Hawk in the Carolinas
Nuke may go back to the Greeks... heck... heart surgery goes back to the Aztecs... but the first nuclear power
plant that lit a city... was American.. Only ONE... ONE... ONE... WINS THE RACE
Sorry kid... Ford was the first one to make mass production work by making STANDARD PARTS... you will
    learn this in high school

    Aztec heart surgery... love it.
I understand that standardized parts went back to 1798 in USA, firearms,
but I suspect the history goes back a long long way before that with armor,
    steam engines, ship parts etc..
I recall reading that the Carthagians built their amazing warships with standard
parts, and numbered each timber. That was kind of them because the Romans
could simply copy the timbers and make their own warships.

Trouble is, as the fans of Roslyn Franklin don't understand, the prize isn't
to anyone who finds a step in a process, it's the final step that counts.

You can always tell when someone knows they lied - they immediately change their claims. Thanks for the admission.

I know New Yorkers often get justifiably impatient and acerbic with some of the imponderable questions asked by visitors to this forum, so I thought I would share with you some genuine questions and answers from an Australian tourist website. I wish I could provide a link to this, but I received it from my daughter's office in an e-mail so I can't do it. Glad to see responses as witty a as those often seen here. Hope I started your weekend with a chuckle or two.....

Q - I have never seen it rain on TV in Australia. How do the plants grow? (UK)

A- We import all plants fully grown and then just sit around watching them die.

Q- Will I be able to see kangaroos in the street? (USA)

A - Depends on how much you have been drinking

Q- I want to walk from Perth to Sydney -- can I follow the railroad tracks? (Sweden)

A- Sure, it's only 3,000 miles, take lots of water

Q - Are there any ATMs (cash machines) in Australia? Can you send me a list of them in Brisbane, Cairns,Townsville and Hervey Bay (UK)

A - What did your last slave die of?

Q- Can you give me some information about hippo racing in Australia? (USA)

A - A-fri-ca is the big triangle shaped continent south of Europe. Aus-tra-lia is that big island in the middle of the Pacific which does not.....Oh forget it. Sure, the hippo racing is every Tuesday night in Kings Cross. Come naked.

Q - Which direction is North in Australia? (USA)

A - Face south and then turn 180 degrees. Contact us when you get here and we'll send the rest of the directions.

Q- Can I bring cutlery into Australia? (UK)

A- Why? Just use your fingers like we do...

Q - Can you send me the Vienna Boys' Choir schedule? (USA)

A - Aus-tri-a is that quaint little country bordering Ger-man-y, which is... Oh forget it. Sure, the Vienna Boys' Choir sings every Tuesday night in Kings Cross, straight after the hippo races. Come naked.

Q - Can I wear high heels in Australia? (UK)

A - You are a British politician, right?

Q - Are there supermarkets in Sydney and is milk available all year round ? (Germany)

A - No, we are a peaceful civilization of vegan hunter/gatherers. Milk is illegal.

Q - Please send a list of all doctors in Australia who can dispense rattlesnake serum. (USA)

A - Rattlesnakes live in A-meri-ca which is where you come from. All Australian snakes are perfectly harmless, can be safely handled and make good pets.

Q - I have a question about a famous animal in Australia, but I forget its name. It's a kind of bear and lives in trees. (USA)

A- It's called a Drop Bear. They are so called because they drop out of gum trees and eat the brains of anyone walking underneath them. You can scare them off by spraying yourself with human urine before you go out walking.

Q - I have developed a new product that is the fountain of youth. Can you tell me where I can sell it in Australia? (USA)

A - Anywhere significant numbers of Americans gather.

Q - Do you celebrate Christmas in Australia? (France)

    A - Only at Christmas

Q - Will I be able to speak English most places I go ? (USA)

A - Yes, but you'll have to learn it first

No you were MIA for the first part of the war - you did not even really get involved until after Pearl Harbour

I know it's supposed to be humor but that is some dangerous misinformation on Australian snakes.

Australia is the only continent in the world where more snakes are venomous than non-venomous so the chances are if you see one you should leave it well alone.

Kid Rock said it best, a lot of people poke fun and that's all right but when I start poking back they get all uptight.

With your system of authoritarian government I wouldn't be casting too many Stones if I was an Australian

This thread is turning into a wonderful example of:

Otherwise know as personal anecdotes (subject to fantasy and incoherent blithering narrowmindedness) vs uncomfortable truths.

    Enjoying tremendously
