It's not like we need another fully-staffed govt agency to hand out checks. I still remember riding the commuter train with all the evacuees from NO and Katrina whose pink FEMA bracelets explained their shopping bags full of electronic gadgets. Romney's right... emergencies should be handled at the state level... with the Feds kicking in $$$ when needed.
Yeah, that has absolutely nothing to do with the economic situation that they are in. But bravo on an idiotic response.
So, instead of an effort led by one cohesive unit, you want an effort led by multiple states that are going to have to come together to figure out how to help other states? What if some states don't want to participate? Wouldn't gathering a coalition of states to achieve the same goal as opposed to one agency be vastly slower and weaker?
I'm in New Jersey pretty much dead center of where the storm is supposed to come ashore. Saw Gov. Christie on TV earlier and he made it clear how much he appreciated the support we are getting from federal officials. While I don't like his politics Christie is pretty good at managing situations like this, it's not the first one since he took office. Something tells me Mr. Romney will be getting a call from him asking about this.
Hurricane Sarah here...last effort attempt to gather sympathetic votes by making pro-minority pitch...nah.
It has everything to do with economic situation. People are the same, it's the governments that make the difference by entitling people to free food, free cell phones, free medicine, two months vacation, retiring when you're 50 years old.. Did you know that in most European countries in December workers are paid 2 monthly salaries (called 13th salary or something)? Surprised, our unions are not demanding this... And we fast becoming Greeks...
Great Idea, lets cut FEMA so we can build a few more military bases in some 'stan' country somewhere. Or maybe we can build a bunch of new tanks we dont need and the army doesn't want.. http://security.blogs.cnn.com/2012/10/09/army-to-congress-thanks-but-no-tanks/ Better yet, lets cut big bird cause we know that program is unsustainable.
Why not reduce FEMA and defense spending at the same time? The idea is to balance the budget not just fund our pet projects.
Obama is currently on European CNN pretty much all the time, looking very tired, very worried... Very presidential
Romney said "but also said it would be 'immoral' for the federal government to fund disaster relief efforts without cutting the budget elsewhere. 'It makes no sense at all,' Romney concluded." His comments about what were "immoral" and "making no sense" had to do with us spending more than we take in. I wouldn't say it was his response to disaster funding.
Of course it is. But it's kinda inconvenient for me to write more than a few lines at a time on my iPad... Give me one good reason to educate you, and I will though...
We can't choose when and how natural disasters will hit us Mitt. Greetings from the east coast you rich Smuck. Glad we will not have to care what you think soon.
No, but you are. Romney is right. Before the National Guard arrived in New Orleans, before FEMA, before the President, there were trucks rolling out of LDS warehouses and at the point where they were needed. They were first in Haiti too. Charity and human giving will always outdo and outmaneuver the government. The Federal government does nothing but waste the money they throw at problems because they rarely can handle huge problems.
LOL!! Thanks I needed a good laugh, The hurricane is hitting us now I don't see the private sector doing anyhint but trying to profit off of this.
