Backing Up: Here it is Again...

    Cause and effect depend on time, and without the universe there is no time. In other words, everything that happened before the universe happened at the same time without cause. By definition, nothing caused the universe.

    There is, of course, the option of simply asserting that the universe was 'always' there. Which would be true, since it would have existed for all of time.
