    Yet you probably think it's government's proper role to tell citizens whom they may legally marry... what kinds of plants they may grow... what can be shown on television and broadcast on the radio... which god is invoked in public affairs and official acts... which industries should be subsidized... etc.. There are plenty of examples of Right Wing statism - that is citizens wishing to use the organs of government to engineer a society that fits their world view.

    There's nothing wrong with government encouraging traditional American values and culture that are responsible for making us the greatest nation on earth. Once we deviate from that, we're lost.

    And I want government out of my wallet. Government's only role should be to keep us safe from all enemies, foreign and domestic. It has no business redistributing income.

    Sorry, friend, but that's the textbook definition of statism. And please do not move the goalposts: it's not encouraging we're talking about here. So there is absolutely something wrong with it - if you wish to live in a nation of free men anyway. At the core of statism lies authoritarianism - that is, specifically, the belief that you (or your agents) should have control over the lives of your fellow citizens for no other reason than you wish to force them to share your values. It's the same reasoning that motivates lefty college students and professors to shout down, intimidate, and ultimately silence conservative speakers on their campi.
