Let me clear up your confusion. The point was is that back in the 80s politicians agreed to disagree with each other and showed each other professional respect. They didn't grab onto every problem in the world and turn it into a blatant partisan attack on the other party. Some of us here are old enough to remember those days clearly. Sadly, those days are gone thanks to the complete takeover of the punditocracy by the American Taliban, which politicians feel the need to suck up to. Politicians who will choose job security over doing the right thing are the absolute worst. The irony of the OP is the fact that when you look at the records and actions of Obama and Reagan you come to the inescapable realization that Reagan was to the left of Obama.
Bush was warned several times before 9/11 of an impending attack and chose to go back to playing golf and doing nothing. During the attack he stared off into space and did nothing for several minutes in front of school children. He was next to useless.
