Tell me Dayton, what would be the image of an american president who gives 1/3 of your country away under communist dictatorship, watchs as a wall is erected and people who try to escape get shot? Not foreigners, but your actual countrymen. The very same president would let celebrate himself to bring a few POW home but ignores the suffering of 1/3 of his own population.

 

It's all true whether you want to admit it or not. Joseph Stalin and the Soviets enslaved your people (and crushed the 1953 revolt to reinforce the point) and the East German quislings who collaborated with them were the traitors to your people. The Berlin Wall is testimony to what they thought about your aspirations of freedom and reunification with your German brothers and sisters in the West. So are the memorials to the people they murdered when they tried to escape to West Germany.

You can futilely attempt to absolve them of their responsibility but try as you might you can't.

 

As someone who works in the communications industry I can say that it isn't true for the most part, regardless of whether we're talking about news media or entertainment media. The only government-controlled media outlets that I can think of off the top of my head are the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which includes PBS and NPR, and Voice of America. I may be overlooking a handful of other government-run media outlets but they are insignificant in number and influence. Even the C-Span, the network dedicated to covering our government is privately owned.

Finally, there is the medium you and I are communicating on right now, the Internet, which in our country is the Wild West of media.

But in evry bad thing is a seed for good. The 40 year division of Germany in that sense now is the reason why evrything that Adenauer did hold dear breaks apart. We East Germans currently rip down the very system he build up. We vote more and more extremist. Make the country uncontrolleable.

You should see the fearful faces of west german political "elites" at reunion day. When they came Dresden to celebrate the reunion but went through hell. Even inside the cathedral tehy heared the insults thrown at them by tenthousands. The wife of a minister started crying.

And you know whats best? To see the effect it has on them. Nothing better than seeing how Merkel turned into a broken wreck in last 3 years. To see her stand there and get psychotic tremors, when the german anthem is played, is priceless



To know that this absolute lack of respect for evrything that symbolizes "West Germany" comes from East Germany is amazing.

We had a west german police chief. He got mobbed out of the job and was treated like dirt.

No, what you see is the adjustment process. Some west germans believed reunion means that East Germany subjugates and does not bring in its own will and dreams.

This did not end well. It was idiotic to believe that post Reunion Germany would be same as West Germany before.

I despise the "progressive" political elites in my own country so I can understand the anger and frustration but you have to harness and channel that energy into something positive and constructive that will persuade your fellow Germans to get rid of those political elites. That time is over. What you witness simply is the awakening of east german people. We dont accept that **** any longer. The reunited Germany is not just a bigger west Germany. We want our ideas implemented as well. And the conflicts that creates is just natural.
