While the option of making a public pledge remains available, Biden has for now settled on an alternative strategy: quietly indicating that he will almost certainly not run for a second term while declining to make a promise that he and his advisers fear could turn him into a lame duck and sap him of his political capital.

According to four people who regularly talk to Biden, all of whom asked for anonymity to discuss internal campaign matters, it is virtually inconceivable that he will run for reelection in 2024, when he would be the first octogenarian president. “If Biden is elected,” a prominent adviser to the campaign said, “he’s going to be 82 years old in four years and he won’t be running for reelection.”

In a sense-Joe Biden is admitting he's too old to serve, but without scaring off the support of younger leftists.

Apparently Biden feels this is a sound strategy.

However, this may also cost him some support over concerns of Biden becoming a lame duck from day one, should he somehow manage to beat Trump in 2020.

From what I've read he vehemently denied ever saying any such thing.

You are referring to months back-now he's floating the idea again.

The problem is Biden is trying to herd cats.

If he moves further left, he alienates many moderates and blacks.

Right now he has support from moderates and blacks, but lefties will be turned off by voting for an 80 year old confused moderate.

He just doesn't seem like he's got it all together right now. He seems easily flustered and sometimes incoherent. I can't imagine how he would be in another four years if he does win the presidency. Apparently he can still do pushups, although I'm not sure that's an important skill for a president.

He also gets aggressive when questioned beyond his comfort zone.

Then there is the near constant stream of Biden gaffes.

This is a RE-Cycled story that was first floated (and shot down) in March.

    https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/a...ion-a-vow-to-serve-just-one-term-means-defeat

Also, your link is dated 2 DAYS AGO, and this story has already been discussed (in-depth) all across the internet.

Usually, these "Hey look at Uncle Joe" stories hit PF minutes after hitting the wires.

I am surprised that it took so long for this to get posted.

Is the RW taking their foot off of the gas?

    Anyway, as to this story?

Ryan Lizza is clearly desperate for attention to have recycled this absurd BS that had a complete airing (and was shot down) 9 Months ago.

And, Biden has already shot down the story.

Well, Trump shoots down a lot of stories. Yet some of them(note: I give some media credit and say some of them) turned out to be true. So maybe there's fire where there's smoke here, who knows.

Biden certainly looks the part of old and frail(much like Hillary Clinton did.) It's a shame that Cory Booker never took off(mostly because he tried to be fake about it.) If he didn't enter spartacus mode, he might've actually had a better primary run. Legislators are not known for gawking noises, they are known for accomplishing things.

In Trump's case, he was known as an established big billionaire who gave lip service to the idea of Nationalism, and generally we've seen some success(outside of Democrats wanting to call him a criminal-gate.)

His actual presidency, hasn't been too terrible as a matter of policy.

AJ this is clearly a current event-that is to say since Biden has began to campaign and only recently has he decided to float this again.

Its a window into the concerns of the Biden campaign.

    Biden is too old.

And Trump? Hell, the guy can't even flush a toilet properly. He's 25th Amendment ready.

Trump just wants some 5 year old to show him how to flush a toilet for Christmas - we can get him that, can't we? C'mon, the guy is struggling here.

Good point, or maybe somebody held up 2 fingers when saying "two terms", and he bit one of the fingers.

That being said, I think it certainly needs to be a topic for ALL the older candidates... I'd have no problem with Joe coming out and saying he'll be 1 and done... Pick a VP candidate (Amy?) who would then be groomed to continue the American comeback from this current void of leadership in 2024...

Different strategy for sure.... But I doubt Joe will risk it...

Apart from his mind pulling a Nancy Pelosi -- slipping, in other words -- he's extremely worried about his and his son's corruption becoming a real campaign issue. Even the DNC loyalist Mainstream Media is finally beginning to slip real questions about the Bidens and Ukraine into their endless soft ball lobs. He is increasingly becoming flustered over that since the MSM is NOT supposed to be doing that to a leftist front runner for president.

His only real danger is that after the Senate takes over the Trial of Donald Trump they may decide that it hinges on getting to the bottom of the Biden/Ukraine issue. That would be disastrous for not only Biden but for the Dem Party itself.

His son is his Achilles heel, and he made the big mistake of showing his weak spot.

The Repubs were needling it during the impeachment hearing, and that's just a little preview of how Trump is going to chop at it with a battle ax if he and No Malarkey Joe end up going toe to toe.
