I could only listen to 5 minutes of it. I expected a finger pointing speech rather than an apology and that is what we got. I couldn't listen any longer to that fool. I'm now watching some guys in Texas build a truck. Nothing controversial about it at all.

If we get out of there and stay out, it’s a massive success. I like that he is bringing in enough troops to get all our people out safely and as many Afghans who want to leave as possible. With the hand he was dealt, his only move was to drag it out another 4-8 years or to get out now. I prefer the latter. Afghanistan has always been ruled by territorial tribal warlords with very little central structure. That’s why it has always been a graveyard for any invading force going back thousands of years. It was an idiot move to go in there and it’s time to get out and let these people fight it out.

Then we will have a reason to go to war which I would support. If they kill any of our citizens or military who are leaving we should go in there and wipe out the Taliban. However, I do not think that will happen. You are just hoping that all of our people will be killed tonight so that it will make Biden look bad. Pretty sick.

IMO we could have retained several bases there to make sure the locals keep Taliban at bay, but it turns out the locals had already made deals with the Taliban when they heard we were leaving in 2020. It would have been a waste. It will be painful for the locals to fall under Sharia law, but maybe we can't keep punting the ball from one president to the next. Finally someone pulled the trigger. This is not South Korea who appreciates our presence.

They don't have to kill Americans since they know everyone is leaving anyway.

I'm not sure where you're getting that he's saying that. The taliban has already executed ANA commandos and thousands of citizens in a door to door murder spree. they're not stopping until the choke that place to death, and then they'll continue into other parts. We should have done this incrementally.

If I were an Afghani, I would fight for my own family, my life and my country. We gave these people the guns, the training, the support and the money for 20 years. Then they surrendered to these rag tag bunch without firing a shot.

 

That "ragtag bunch" now have armored Humvees, tanks, and cutting-edge US military weaponry.

Drones? None. Who told you they have cutting edge anything?

Why would they? US didn't need anti-air weapons since the Taliban didn't have anything that could fly.

Humvees? Yes. They were for the Afghan forces, who are now Taliban.
