This is just another of the many instances proving there is NO SUCH THING AS FREE MARKET CAPITALISM!!!Someone somewhere ALWAYS has their thumb on the scale distorting and scamming the system whether it be health insurance companies scheming to not compete head to head but instead divvying up the country amongst themselves to avoid competition,to rate fixing.CAPITALISM IS DRIVEN AND MOTIVATED BY GREED!!
It should be well known, big pharma has been screwing consumers. It should be well known, big(insert industry) is always screwing consumers. There is no such thing as 'free markets', in a world controlled by humans.
Big Pharma is one of the last remaining industries in the U.S. protected from foreign competition. (all the USDA health regulations and required medical trials create a big barrier to entry, then the asinine way the patent system works when it comes to drugs) That is why it's possible for a monopoly to exist.
Maybe this is true in other industries, but the pharma industry is dominated by anti-market state provided monopolies to a few big players. The industry amounts to not much more than a cartel. Almost all their profit is not much more than a subsidy. I have long advocated for an end to patents and IP.
Actually the price hikes are driven by the fact that people don't know what their drug prices should be. The drug companies don't publish them. Make them publish them. That will help more than trying to hide from greed.
I have no objection to capitalism per se, but what we are seeing these days is capitalism run amok. We are seeing fascism, whereby the corporations so thoroughly control the government that they write the rules that govern them, what few rules there are. More, they greatly influence the enforcers of the law. We have corporations run by men and women with no conscience, no ability to know right from wrong. If Teva is an Israeli company, I would not be surprised at all.
Yes, exactly why there is no such thing as 'free markets', when humans are in control of a system. It's profit, at all costs. Nothing else matters.
