One of the proposed solutions to illegal immigration is the Birthright Citizenship Act. What are your thoughts on this legislation and what is your moral reasoning for your response if you have one?
Closing the borders would help a great deal, but if the birthright amendment is not addressed immigrants will still use it against the US.
Illegals come into the states and have a baby. The kid should NOT be a citizen since the parents broke the law in being in the US. We just need to add more drones. We only have a 1 or 2 up there patrolling the whole border.
The USA should stop giving automatic citizenship to anyone born within its borders. This is the single most important thing the USA can do in regards to immigration! The USA is being overrun, and the illegal immigrants are having more children than the number that snuck in in the first place! Why do people not see this? The biggest problem are all the children the illegals are having, not the illegals themselves! The USA is virtually the only developed country that gives citizenship just because someone was born on American soil. This was not the original intention of the fourteenth constitutional ammendment. Indeed, it can well be argued that the children of illegals born in the USA are not actually legal citizens, even though the government treats them that way! The law must, and will, soon change. The Republican political party is certainly not going to commit political suicide through inaction on this issue.
The birthright act was enacted to give citizenship to freed slaves, since we no longer have any freed slaves and America is the only nation in the world that grants citizenship to anyone born here, it is time to catch up to the rest of the world and STOP THE NONSENSE.
It has only been around a bit more than 100 years and was created for ONE purpose, to make the freed slaves, at the end of the civil war, citizens. it is no longer needed since we have no slaves. It is foolish, a drain on the economy and ......well just plain idiotic, which is why NO OTHER nation in the world does it.
No problem with it, as it specifically gives birthright citizenship to the children with at least one parent who is a U.S. citizen, a legal permanent resident, or an undocumented immigrant serving in the military. I wish that it would clarify "natural born" citizen as well. http://www.opencongress.org/bill/112-h140/show
Birthright citizenship needs to be eliminated. It wasn't meant to be abused like it is now, and it only encourages more illegal immigration.
