So free stuff on top of all the other free stuff. Seems like an internal guilt problem not a “let’s throw money at this” problem.

I remember all the free stuff after Katrina hit down here in Houston. Lots of teeth and tats and rims got paid for by gov handouts.

seems like an endless drain, and clearly still a handout.

I guess you don't see taking less from someone is different than taking from someone to buy the votes of others. You must believe that all wealth belongs to the government and a tax cut is the same as a handout

Tax cuts are not the same as a hand out but both are paying for votes, vote for me and I will do something for you. And once you have paid taxes its no longer your money.

and the top tax payers pay far more than they should and get the least return on their taxes. Representation at the federal level without taxation is one of the worst things happening in our country.

are you claiming that 40% of government expenditures are on the top one percent?

So far as reparations go I don’t think an oops sorry suffices. Yet neither am I sure of what the correct reparations should be. At a minimum we should continue our efforts to stamp out racism wherever it pops up.

Nope, I'm claiming that the top tax payers DON'T pay more than they should and DON'T get the least return on their taxes.

and you are wrong using any objective criteria. the top one percent pay a far higher share of the income tax than their share of the income. They are the only people paying a wealth tax as well. the bottom 50% pay little or no federal income tax and of course none of the death (wealth) tax. so it seems they get far more citizenship benefits -representation without taxation for example.

Its simple, if after your taxes are raised you are still able to maintain the same lifestyle you had before taxes were raised then they are not too high.

I should preface- no individual in the US today owes anyone anything for slavery generations ago, and 'reparations' on that basis is ridiculous ...and unpopular, even (perhaps especially) among blacks.

But thats not the only argument.

Its arguable (and true imo) that black communities are still suffering the effects of past discrimination. Its provable that banks targetted black communities with 'no buisiness loans' practices, federal agencies targetted them for drug profiteering to fund covert ops during the cold war, performed surreptitious pharmaceutical testing on them without their knowledge, and used their resultant poverty and dependence on the social safety net to bolster certain voting blocks in what I would call 'predatory politics.'

I think a case could be made that black communities are owed something. The problem is- who pays it? Joe Taxpayer didnt victimize black communities.

I think any argument about reparations that has any basis in both legitimacy and success would be centered around granting govt land to black separatist communities. The govt has too much land locked away from our use anyway, and some of it was sposed to be handed out to black war vets long ago. Seems to me like a good place to start.

that is the most moronic thing I have ever heard. It completely ignores what you get in return and it ignores the fact that the poor get far more from the government than what they pay

you still are failing to justify your earlier claims. it does not work best-it creates millions of dependent parasites while expanding the federal government far beyond the bounds set upon it in the constitution
