I dunno about this story. Makes me wonder... of course gays have the right to kiss. But does the cab driver have the right to object if it's happening in his cab?

No doubt some of you will want to flog the guy, but think about it. Don't folks have the right to set limits within their own personal domains?

 

I'd like to know what business the police had looking that far into it in the first place.

That's an issue between the cabbie and his employer, who ideally would back him up, but of course is presumably not in business to take stands on social issues.

 

Except that the taxi cab is not the driver's personal domain.

 

Other cab companies that make it clear that they aren't anti-gay, will get a bit more business. That is what that means to me most of all.

 

There's big money in this...Hasn't that cabbie ever seen 'Taxi Cab Confessions?'.....My advice, mount a camera. Have them sign agreements. Sell the footage.

 

Sun Taxi Associates sounds like he owns his own cab, but is part of a network of other owners.

In this day & age, I have to give the guy a pat on the back for standing up for his beliefs. Yeah, he went overboard by putting them out in the middle of a rainy freeway -- but still, he didn't like it and by George he wasn't gonna put up with it anymore.

People get that way when stuff is crammed down their throats.

Hey, I understand NOT liking some of the things people do. But if you want to provide transportation to the public-at-large... you can bet that not everyone getting into your 'vehicle' will match up to your social, moral, religious or political 'expectations'.

If the behavior isn't criminal or disrupting the driver's business, I don't think he should be refusing people service. The negative publicity will likely send money to other cab companies.

 

I'm certain that he has NOT. Depending exactly upon how he handled the situation, he may eventually be facing a lawsuit.

We'll see.

 

He will probably lose his hack license, as he should. When you are a licensed professional, you are required to adhere to professional standards. One of those standards is that you take your passengers safely to their destination. He may even face civil penalties and a possible criminal charge.

 

If it a muslim refusing to drive a jew or christian would you feel the same way.

 

He is obliged by way of his professional licensure to insure the safety of his passengers and to get them to their destination. This is going to end up costing him big time--his license potentially, and he may be subject to civil action by the ejected passengers as well as a possible criminal charge.

 

A quick kiss is "cramm[ing stuff] down their throats"?

There was a big story in Minneapolis of Muslim cabbies resfusing to take passengers carrying liquor, pork, dogs, basically anything that violated their religion. Fortunately, the cabbies lost.

 

If someone is truly homophobic, just having them sit inside the cab may be too much.

 

And if social and religious bigots want to PUSH things too far... I say DON'T COMPLAIN when we (someday) have the equivalent of a GOVERNMENT TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM.

People need to get around, gay or not; religious or not.

Which there was no evidence of, so it would appear he was either greatly over exaggerating or outright lying.

In major cities, taxi cabs are considered part of the transit system--this is why they are licensed and heavily-regulated. Imagine in Minneapolis, for example, if the cabbies won their case and were allowed to refuse to pick up certain passengers... Then consider that most of the drivers in Minneapolis are Muslim. You'd have a lot of yellow cars sitting around doing nothing.

We don't know all the details yet. At this point it is all hearsay. Bottom line is even if they having sex in the back of his cab, he still could not eject them--rather pull over and call the cops and let them deal with it.

 

Well, the alternative of their claim is that they actually did nothing whatsoever. Logic would suggest that would be ridiculous. Something obviously happened, and we know that what the cabby said happened didn't.
