Yes, you are absolutely right. its my best guess how something that picks these specific health related target industries, got this bizarre focus for a one year jail sentence. Somebody complained to legislator with a lobotomy.

The premise of the law is that trans, non-binary, etc are valid, medically-recognized gender orientations. If you want to disagree with that, you're welcome to it. Similarly, I disagree that any kind of religious belief is valid justification for anything. But I recognize that I could be wrong and that protections for religious people should exist. This law would expand harassment protection from misgendering to folks who don't identify with traditional binary gender concepts. If you're not willing to at least accept the premise for the sake of argument, then there isn't much else to discuss.

It is pathetic how badly you and some of the other posters here have to lump people into groups. I'm not a member of any political group and I don't subscribe to a specific ideology. I guess if you can't defend your position then you have to dismiss through association?

 

I do not agree that they are valid. They are no more valid than any other delusion people suffer from...so I guess there isn't much else to discuss. I wont be part of someones therapy, and I wont take part in their fantasy by using words that don't fit.

Language wasn't handed down from on high. It's constantly changing. This is akin to someone asking you to address them by their preferred name.

 

They better pass it fast, it looks like California State Senator Josh Newman (D) is about to be recalled in November over voting for the gas and other tax hikes. I doubt the voters in Conservative Orange County will make the mistake of voting for another Democrat in the recall election. This will break the Democrats 60% Senate majority in Sacramento and make it harder for them to pass asinine bills like the one that's the subject of this thread. BTW that bill is the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

You know you can go to jail for harassment, right? The n-word isn't illegal, and this law doesn't make pronouns illegal, either. It defines intentional misgendering, in certain circumstances, as harassment.

 

No, no it's not. The evolution of language is through mutual approval of each individual in society freely. You are suggesting force be used to align society where you feel it should be. In every facet of life, unnatural hastened measures taken on by the few and forced on the many renders less than optimal results.

 

How was I supposed to take the phrase "your people," exactly?

 

This isn't actually about language, but about behavior. And it isn't being forced on people, but on roles. The law is specifically about people in positions of authority when it comes to house, health care, and retirement. If you would have a problem with your landlord, or your doctor, repeatedly referring to you as another gender, then you should be able to understand where this law is coming from.

If your doctor doesn't know your gender, you'd best get another doctor.
