Thing is, you Germans are smart enough to have made it a Federal priority(IE: Higher funding resources), whereas you have a local State here(think: A province or small town by comparison in Germany) trying to actually do it on its own.

The failure of California's high speed rail, should put a dent in the 6th highest economy BS.

As far as i know USA once had excellent railway system but corporate greed ruined it and so now you need to invest large amounts of money to bring it on a modern standard.

I doubt California can stem this. They have zero experince in this business. Only Germany, France, Japan and China have such systems and export them. Smart nations like Spain., Russia and Italy give contracts to a country that has experience and let them build.

California want do this on their own, which is as retarded. What experience has California in placing such railways? What experience in making highspeed tunnels? Do they know such tunnels need special form so no sonic boom is generated when a train enters? There is so much one has to take into consideration.

My guess is it will be a massive failure when they do it alone and cost alot of money.

You do realize the distance is over 3 times then Germany right? Do you understand that costs over 3 times more and look what it costs now.

You do realize that it gets cheaper the longer the distance is?

The track from Munich to Berlin did cost us 10 billion €. Thats 6 times more than what your "3 times longer" track will cost.

Are you claiming now you are incapable to do what China does? Building high speed rail even up to Himalaya and Tibet?

I´m aware that you lack the technology we have in Germany but also France, Japan and China but i wasn´t aware that your country has become so pussified.

You spend 2 billion $ per day for your useless military. What a joke of a country you aee.

This should serve as a warning to people who think the Wall will not be hit with huge cost over-runs.

Law changes its that simple they used to demand all rail companies have passenger service then they cam up with Amtrak. And air travel was far more expensive than rail travel at least within shorter to middle range routes and buses were cheaper than trains its no longer the case air travel is far cheaper and faster than both options.

As for this project I opposed it in Florida since doing the math the tickets would have been around eighty dollars one way to Orlando, Greyhound was twenty dollars and Amtrak less than that so why would I pay the eighty dollars to save a little time? Round trip the costs were cheaper than the likely one way cost for the high speed rail. Only fliers would save money and that wasn't that big a difference.

And Amtrak makes the trip on 90 minutes faster than driving or the bus and goes right to downtown Orlando from Tampa so why pay eighty dollars what is the rush all the time to go places I never got that for me its far less stress and cheaper using mass transit but if you have a car your going to drive in most cases over any other option if its practical to do so.

Air travel is much slower. You need to Go to Airport, Check in, Security. When Landes you need to wait to disembark. Wait for your luggage. Because of this IT takes much more time.

Its a culture Thing. I have a car. We have the Excellenz Autobahn in Germany but for Long distance use the train. Its more comfortable.

Not in my country people who don't drive either live in very high populated cities with excellent mass transit or its not trendy, New York City comes to mind. Or they are poor and can't afford a car so couldn't afford to take a high speed train. Or they are like me due to being disabled or infirm can't legally or safely drive so must take mass transit or do some other kind of travel such as bicycle or a disabled use power scooter/power wheelchair. So in my country getting people out of their cars means long distance travel such as Tampa Florida to Las Vegas Nevada or making it so easy to get around with mass transit its better than a car good luck with that.

For me going to say Indianapolis for the GenCon Game Fair I go by Greyhound it takes a day each way with layovers, its under a hundred dollars round trip and once there go on the bus to the motel and back again and at the fair or near the motel use my power wheelchair. Would a high speed train be cheaper and once there can I get around any faster yes or no and it would need to be affordable (cheap enough). I don't think its viable here.
