Being very involved with researching the history of my home state, I always leap on anything that furthers it. These maps show just how little early explorers knew of our world. But, they also show just how adventurous they were. The main character of my next novel, Fernando Rivera, was part of a Jesuit expedition to disprove or prove this belief by travel through the rugged Baja terrain to discover the mouth of the Colorado River.

California will be an island again.
It isn't going to break off and fall in the ocean. It will be thrust upwards as the MidWest sinks and goes under water.

I don't completely agree with this image. The east will be reduced to the peaks of Appalachia and the Mississippi Valley should certainly go under water by any reasonable or unreasonable prediction.

    I like that map.

It could be used in an alternate world setting.

And here I thought they were just drained, slowly sloping continental shelf.

You don't hear about it anymore but, I remember :oldman: how it was once an issue, how a Florida land owner drained his land. It often meant a neighbor's inconvenience if not "New Swamp".

I visited Miami once. Too, Too, Flat.
I need my bluffs, knolls, hills, mountains.

I choose the beaches, mountains, valleys, hills of the Greatest State of California.
And the establishment of the "Bear Flag Republic" once again.
Island status would improve our quality of life.

Curious to see what you know about the Bear Flag Revolt. An interesting, but really minor blip in California history.

Well, without looking it up and functioning on memory,
I believe the Bear Flag Republic bearly existed a month, if indeed a week.
Texas the other Republic turned State was independent for some ten years.

I also seem to remember the American commanders in California were at odds and Fremont got the short end.

    How did I do?
