Hey I have a question that's been bothering me.

Our Battalion Commander told us in formation last week that our unit will "skip" deployment rotation. I didn't think much of it at the time, but am now really confused. Our deployment rotation is divided because our unit contains many MOS soldiers and we're severely undermanned. What happens when a deployment rotation is skipped? Does that just mean through the fiscal year, then your unit ships down range?

To my knowledge, no other unit has picked up our cycle.

I just cannot find a concrete answer on what "skipping a deployment rotation" is. Even my platoon sergeant doesn't know. I texted him just now.

    :) Thanks

    Short answer: I don't know.

Slightly longer answer: The problem with units being undermanned and not able to deploy is pretty common. After I got back from being deployed, the unit I transferred to was mobilized but I wasn't because I had been involuntarily mobilized within the past 5 years. So the unit mobbed undermanned and was backfilled with augmentees from other units. A friend of mine was mobilized out of his unit into another unit because when that unit mobilized, they had people who had just been demobbed and couldn't be activated so soon, so my friend ended up as an augmentee into that unit. I think it's odd that they wouldn't mobilize the unit and then just man it with augmentees, but maybe because the pace of units is declining they are moving away from the rotation model.

Yea this is weird. I don't usually get information straight from on O4 but we got an email stating some of us could volunteer for a European command transition training program. I've never been "invited" to volunteer for a cool mission before. Something must be going on if we were taken off cycle and dispersing. Rumors are that the unit could be slashed.

"European command transition training program" sounds like an Afghanistan deployment to me. The military can be awfully tricky with it's euphemisms in case you were expecting duty in Frankfurt or Brussels!

I'm currently stationed in Europe. I'm just home on leave.

Yea, lol, I really don't know what it means.
