Could you try to make a mental effort to understand that immigrants have nothing to do with anything I have written? And infinitely less if they became doctors and lawyers. Read my original post if you want to understand what I'm talking about. I'm talking about people who did not have the privilege that whites have to obtain a higher education, and how that connects to many things, including the Jim Crow era.

There are immigrants who received a good education in their country of origin, just like there are blacks and whites. There are immigrants who did not receive a good education but made an effort to obtain a degree, just like there are blacks and whites.... But the only ones affected negatively by Jim Crow era laws and discrimination, plus the carry-over effects of slavery just 150 years ago, just happen to be blacks.. They were handicapped by laws that our government passed or allowed to pass and situations that were allowed to happen. That is the darkest page in our history. And a wrong that we can try to lessen with a very small inconvenience for whites who have enjoyed these privileges since our country was formed

The only one dimensional thinking here is the inane posting that you keep puking up. California and other states have had affirmative action programs in place for generations now going back to the 70s and 80s and yet they are still underrepresented in universities. When will you get it through your head that its the broken black community that is the problem and not white people. Black people do just as bad in California as any other state....unless you are going to tell everyone that hyper liberal California is overrun with KKK members and neo-Nazis hiding behind every tree.

Wait a minute, you mean they actually claim that the freedom to 'move, buy, work, play and speak freely', the right to basic actions enshrined in our declaration(that whole freedom and pursuit of happiness thing) is proof of white privilege? ROFL. It's not the 1800's anymore, slavery's not legal and no one is holding back a single African-American.

I am accusing millions of liberals like you of judging groups by skin color

Among guilt-ridden white liberals blacks are victims that need to be nurtured and protected from the mean ole white racists by liberal whites like themselves

In lib la la land where liberals live all black failure is explained by white racism when the truth is that bad behavior and bad judgement by black people themselves is what keeps them in poverty

It's something made up by left wing Nazi's that think a skin color makes them by design worth more to others just because they are white and that they should help the other races by lowing the bar for the others because in there minds they really are dumber and less able than whites because of a skin color.

Those that believe in White Privilege should go march with the Nazi as they may as well be about the same thing.

Based on how white liberals treat black people

Stop making excuses for black failure by blaming it on whites and white privilage

Some really good and important points, but what about you?

If you're white, and say both you AND one of your kids lose out on a job or promotion you're pretty sure you're superbly qualified for - lose that to a less or equally qualified minority candidate; someone you KNOW this about - and then you lose your house, is that still a small inconvenience?

I don't mean this as an attack; I'm just trying to bring the Rust Belt reality home.

I see your point, but I also know that, in certain areas, a white person maybe profile by police.

Try being white and walk through a minority neighborhood known for the sale of drugs on a regular basis, and tell me you never get profiled.

I wouldn't try to argue that white people get profiled as often as minorities, but to say it doesn't happen is ridiculous.

I just can't understand your claim that people don't value it education because they didn't get a good education. I don't believe in that. I have worked in and inner-city school with mostly minority students. Many of them valued their education and took it seriously in spite of the conditions. While can understand how poor conditions can lead some to give up, I don't consider it society's fault.

Yes, because that's when we legally addressed this issue. I'm not sure what else can be done to address the issue.

It takes time for lingering effects to disappear. I agree that desegregating schools doesn't improve the situation overnight, but I'm not sure what else can be done about that.

I've brought it up on this thread, sure, but that doesn't mean that no one else in the history of the discussion of white privilege has ever brought it up as a way of compensation.

However, you may be correct in that I don't know if you actually support such solutions, so it was unfair for me to toss it out there in your face. I apologize for that.

What you are describing is economic privilege. If your parents obtained a higher education and raised you accordingly, you enjoyed the privilege of a higher socioeconomic upbringing. It is incorrect to label that by race. The left insists that it is wrong to paint all members of a race with one broad brush, because that broad brush is often wrong when assessing the individual, but then you turn around and use a gigantic brush when constantly throwing around the label white privilege.

There are an awful lot of whites that come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, and there are an awful lot of blacks that come from middle and upper class backgrounds. It is nonsensical to imply that the lower class whites have a privilege that the middle and upper class blacks do not, yet the term "white privilege" implies just that. It is nonsensical to imply that upper class whites have a privilege that upper class blacks do not. This so called "privilege" is solely about socioeconomic status and has nothing to do with race whatsoever. If the right were running around painting with such a broad brush the left would be crying bloody murder, but since the left is the one painting with a broad brush, it magically becomes OK. The hypocrisy involved is astounding. Just because you say there are more lower class blacks by percentage doesn't make the term white privilege more acceptable, anymore than calling blacks violent because by percentage they commit more violent crimes. There is a fair amount of truth to both generalizations, but if you are going to ban generalizing by race in one instance, you also must ban generalizing in the other instance if you have even a shred of intellectual consistency. You cannot have your cake and eat it too.

Sure. And you can read my original post if you want to understand why.

    http://www.politicalforum.com/index...at-white-privilege-is.513370/#post-1067936064

Where the f.... hell... did you get the idea that anybody is saying the problem is white people?

You need to understand one thing. You guys take a lot of nonsense like this as a given because you get your information almost exclusively from right wingnut media. They even try to tell you what I believe. And they get it all wrong 100% of the time!

In wingnut media, Sean Hannity (or anybody) will throw in "code" phrases like "the broken black community". Just saying that works for clowns like Hannity because he knows he has an audience of gullible people who won't question it because they are not "programmed" to question what they are instructed to believe.

It doesn't work like that in the real world, though. Here you have to tell us what "broken black community" means to you. What it means, what makes it "broken" and what caused it to break in the first place, according to you?

I'd be angry as hell at those who brought us to this point with their segregationism and Jim Crow laws. Wouldn't you?

Actually, if a lose my house because I didn't make enough to pay for it when I bought it. Or because I was expecting a promotion in order to afford it, I wouldn't blame it on affirmative action.

It's just one of the many excuses that certain minority groups use to explain their achievement gap compared to others. White liberals validate these excuses in exchange for votes.

Asians don't have "white privilege" and they actually make more money than whites do, in a predominantly white country.

The right tries to reduce this issue to "blaming" somebody. Who cares whose fault it is? We just need to fix it.

Another thing the right is very good at is the strawman argument. It's second nature to them. So you might not grasp the difference between "Educated parents teach their children the value of education" (my remark in a nutshell) and "people don't value education because they didn't get a good education" (yours)

But I can assure you, they are immensely different.

Well.. .what has been done is affirmative action. It's a small step that will take many generations to undo the damage.

In any case, my post (the first one) was in response to the question in the title. As I said on my first post, it's from my own experience with white privilege. If you have come across a more accurate (serious) answer then I would like to see the reasoning.

Somehow I think there's more to this idea than what you've described because, by your description, there's really no reason to take complaints against white privilege seriously.

According to you its all about skin color. According to you its because white people are white that is why they have better outcomes and not only I but others on this thread have thoroughly embarrassed you with actual facts and statistics. Being black has nothing to do with it. Blacks from other parts of the world that come to the US excel in income and education outcomes. What black immigrants don't have is whiny people like you constantly putting them down and telling them that they won't amount to anything because of their skin color. If you accept the premise of white privilege then you are in fact a racist who sees US blacks as inferior to whites.

Broken black community started with the "War on Poverty" begun by LBJ. Prior to that blacks had a lower unemployment rate.......much lower almost half of what it is today. Black families were still intact with both parents raising their kids. Black attendance at universities is almost identical to what it was 30 years ago despite all the affirmative action nonsense. Idiots from the left only cared about numbers and getting black people into the colleges they didn't give a crap about them actually graduating.

Once people like you started telling them that they were incompetent and incapable of doing anything on their own without your help that is when the black community began to fall apart.
