Without giving any backhanded or saying "there's nothing good about so and so," what positive comment are you able to say about the last ten presidents (5 Dem and 5 Repub). Obama - "You presided over the longest sustained job growth record in US history with unemployment dropping from 10% when you entered to a current 5% Bush Jr. - "You acted decisively after the US was attacked on 9/11 and destroyed the central safe haven of Al Qaeda" Clinton - "You presided over the longest period of peacetime economic expansion in US History" Bush Sr. - "In response to Iraq invading Kuwait, you took out it's military power without destabilizing the region" Reagan - "Your policies helped take down the USSR and the Berlin Wall" Carter - "You followed your conscience" Ford - " You stabilzed the presidency" Nixon - "You normalized relations with China" Johnson - "You passed more landmark civil rights laws than any president past or present" Kennedy - " Your vision pushed man into outer space."
You could at least try to be honest. Obama most certainly did not do anything of the sort. We all know real unemployment is not 5%. Its simply the crooked way they count to juice the numbers, as millions have stopped looking and aren't working. There is not one good thing to say about that failure Obama, Carter, or Clinton. Of the rest, they didn't ruin us completely, so I suppose there's that...
Hey! Carterresidential Physical fitness award! Obama:Opened up Cuba travel Clintonlayed sax rather well.Did the Macarena.
The ten before Obama were head and shoulders above Obama who is the worst president the country has ever had.
lol, you guys went immediately into Obama attack mode the second you opened this thread. It's basically impossible to have any rational discussion with the right the second the name "Obama" is mentioned.
Okay, but I have to do it in opposite order: Kennedy - Tax cuts spurred economic growth; strong on defense and standing up to communism/Khrushchev. Johnson - Signed 1964 CRA and 1965 VRA. Nixon - Desegregation of public schools; Creation of EEOC; Philadelphia Affirmative Action Plan; Exit from Viet Nam; Increased government contracts for African Americans and minorities and women. Ford - Pardoned Richard Nixon. Carter - Honest and intelligent. Reagan - Freed millions from bondage of communism; greatest economic expansion in History; Peace through strength; Increased economic opportunities and businesses for African Americans; Enterprise Zones in poor minority neighborhoods. Bush Sr. - Desert Storm/Desert Shield; Appointed 2nd black to US Supreme Court, Clarence Thomas. Clinton - Governed from the middle; Moderately willing to compromise with opposition party in control of congress. Bush Jr. - Promotion of African Americans in highest levels of government; Afghanistan and Iraq Wars (if you can call Iraq an accomplishment). Obama - Worst president ever but he also promoted African Americans in high levels of government; Killed Osama Bin Laden.
Pssst, that's how we've always done the numbers on unemployment. If you add in the workers that stopped looking, the number is closer to 6%. Those numbers are from Trump's own favorite economic source: The Economic Policy Institute. They lean a little left for my tastes, but they seem spot-on when it comes to unemployment. I'm not saying Obama should get the credit, but unemployment (even including those who have stopped looking) has been falling since 2010.
Here are my two cents: Obama: At least tried to fix health care, is a good father and family man. GWB: Approved $5 billion in aid to Africa, including for combating aids, is a good father and family man. Clinton: Presided over a surplus, was great with working across the aisle. Bush: Presided over the fall of the Berlin wall, officially ended the cold war. Reagan: "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall", instilled confidence in the American people. Then ones before that were before my time, so I can't comment.
From oldest forward: Kennedy - Inspired us to go to the moon, and managed to keep us from exchanging nuclear missiles with the Soviet Union (Cuba). Johnson - Signed the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1965 Voting Rights Act. Nixon - Opened diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China in 1972, ushering in a new era of Sino-American relations. Ford - Healed the nation after Watergate. Carter - Personally involved in Camp David accords, which brought peace between Israel and Egypt. Reagan - Decided to reverse the policy of detente; stood firm against (and was responsible for the collapse of) the Soviet Union. Bush Sr. - Offered measured responses to Iraq's invasion of Kuwait: Desert Storm/Desert Shield. Clinton - Promoted policies which resulted in a record 115 months of U.S. economic expansion. Bush Jr. - Rose to the challenge of addressing Al Qaeda after the attacks of September 11th. Obama - Elected as the first African American president, carried the hopes of the American electorate that we'd see great things.
That's funny you say that about Obama. I have seen comments from people who share your viewpoints that Obama has been a disaster for the US as I watch the current presidential elections. You may not have access to current information, so I will speak in simpler language so you can follow. #1 "Obama created ISIS" - I can see how a sitting president creating a terrible terrorist organization might make people think he is not a good president. I would feel the same way if he had contributed to ISIS/ISIL. Fortunately for everyone, he actually was in Illinois when ISIS/ISL was created in 2004 by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. #2 "Obama is not a US citizen" I understand why you might believe that. He was not born in the continental United States, in fact, he was born over 2000 miles away. One thing that has happened since you might have been born is that Hawaii has been added as a US State - EVEN THOUGH IT IS SO FAR AWAY! The same is true for people born in Alaska as well - even they could become president! #3 "Obama has not improved employment rates" I can see how you might believe this - often when I talk with young people struggling in math - I often need to show pictures of pizza slices or different bunches of grapes. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, Obama began with and 8% unemployment rate, which rose his first year to nearly ten and has steadily declined to today's rate of 4.8%. I teach math in school and 4.8 is actually less that 8. The reason you might be confused is the decimal point in the middle - whenever you are looking at numbers that have different place value - you need to compare the number is the same columns. In this case 4 is less than 8, so the unemployment rates now is less than when Obama took over. Now that you have some new information, you might be able to make better and more informed opinions. I wish you luck! - - - Updated - - - That's funny you say that about Obama. Sounds like we might disagree on a few, but I could easily see a rational thought process here. Though it gets a bit tougher saying something about Trump..."I'd rather have Trump as president than a sharp stick in the eye"
