You guys remember the Dotcom crash in the year 2000? It was pretty bad but not as bad as the economic crash in 2008. But this latest one we're living through now is worse than those other two. That should lead any reasonable person to conclude that capitalism is on its last legs. Listen Pause and Reflect on Professor Richard Wolff's brilliant insight.

If you think the current situation ---- brought about by a virus from another country, and the resulting shutdown of most of our country as a health-related precaution ---- then you don't have even the most rudimentary understanding of even the basics of economics.

But sure, keep listening to Marxist podcasts to hear how awful capitalism is from someone who is outspokenly anti-capitalism

"Capitalism" will survive so long as there are two people willing to trade goods & services for their mutual benefit.

For that reason, it is not now, or has it ever been in jeopardy.

Capitalism only played a part in the Great Depression and the Dotcom crash, had a very minor role other than abetting the 2008 crisis, and played no role in the current economic crisis -- in fact communism had the predominant role. It is true that economic swings are inherent and brought about under capitalism, and not so much under socialism, but that is only because socialism does not provide anything to crash from.

Not sure what an Obama funded Chinese virus has to do with capitalism failing...

seems like it worked well Obama got rich, and the socialist govt got a great weapon. It’s just the socialist govt couldn’t handle it correctly

Let me know when capitalist countries murder masses of their own people. Nothing is worse than socialism.

Capitalism at its worst is still better than Socialism at its best.

They killed millions, foreign and domestic. Only the willfully blind refuse to recognize this. Millions of indigenous inhabitants beginning with Columbus on down and herded into concentration camps, internal deportations (e.g. Trail of Tears under Pres. Jackson who is Trump's hero) and such atrocities. Kidnapping Black people from Africa and making the slaves for the slave master of the big latifundia plantations. Not to mention the millions killed overseas in wars of atrocities like Vietnam.

There were markets before capitalism such as the slave market. And there will be markets after capitalism. Markets have nothing to do with capitalism.

I have not read this article yet, but it is the 4th in a series on the matter. The virus was engineered at UNC Chapel Hill. Whether it began in China, Iran or the US is still being debated.

So which communist regime do you feel is handling this crisis well? Is there a non-capitalist regime you feel we should emulate?

None of those had anything but a minor tangential connection with capitalism.

You need to bone up on markets, capitalism, and their relation in an economic system.

Capitalism is an economic system controlled by price moves.

A free market is a market in which individuals act in their own self interests to the benefit of others.

None of the OP's complaints have anything to do with free market capitalism.

I think it would be nice to see the op try to justify and support the Marxism laid down in one of his threads before running off to start another.

Has anyone noticed the degree to which socialist-style solutions to this current economic crash are being used? People organizing people to set up temporary hospitals, to distribute PPE, people solving all kinds of problems from transportation to medical services...

I've noticed the things you mention, but I see no connection with socialism.

The frequency of recessions was higher pre Great Depression though agree they’re progressively getting more severe.

I don’t believe you toss the baby (Capitalism) out with the bath water but rather look at our practice.

A recession in simplest terms is a loss of consumer purchasing power.

So what did we do post Great Depression? What have we been doing for the past four decades?

Simple answer, public policy to stabilize the consumer and then public policy to destabilize the consumer.

An attitude adjustment toward ALL consumers and better economic policy—change our current practice or stop being stupid is all we need.

Once Trump has finished destroying the Republican Party the opportunity will present itself. It’s too bad we routinely wait for a disaster to act.
