Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, no mask ever produced can "stop a virus". When we take such a statement the most absurdist technically literal lengths possible it is a factual enough statement. And in doing so we can dupe a lot of ignorant and uninformed people into thinking masks shouldn't be used at all. Yuuuup, 'tis true no mask known to man can filter out 100% of the 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 virus particles that are out there in our atmosphere - and no that's not a made up number that's science's best guess as to how many living genome sets we regard as "viruses" are active at any given time. Viruses are the most abundant form of life on Earth by factors so high it would break your calculator, I think for every 1 cell in our body theres 10 the 11th power viral cells (fact check that). So, yeaaaa, we've just not figured out a way to filter out 100% that bacteriophagalctical nastyness and so if even 1 particle passes through a mask, if even a single genomic capsid makes its way past your mask then BOOM BRO BOOM that mask "don't work" and we should just cut the practice out altogether, right?

I am so tied of this right-wing assault on masks for any number of reasons not the least of which is the ignorant perversion of the very vastly complicated discipline of biology but in the most part, the thing that pisses me off the most...

YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO WEAR A MASK BECAUSE IT DIRECTLY PROTECTS YOU! YOU WEAR ONE BECAUSE IT CONTAINS OR AT BEST LIMITS THE BODILY SPEW WE ALL PUT OUT WITH OUR BREATHING AND COUGHING AND SNEEZING AND TALKING THUS INDIRECTLY PROTECTING US ALL!

A MASK OVER OUR FACE REDUCES THE VOLUME AND COVERAGE AREA OF OUR POTENTIAL INFECTIOUS CONTRIBUTIONS
    > THUS REDUCING THE AMOUNT OF COVID CONTAINING PARTICLES IN THE AIR
    >> THUS REDUCING THE LIKELIHOOD OF PERSONS ENCOUNTERING COVID TO BEGIN WITH
    >>> THUS REDUCING THE VIRAL LOAD UNLUCKY PERSONS MAY ACQUIRE

Its a damned simple thing but it takes total participation. Masks serve your community, they serve your neighbors, they serve the ones who put themselves at risk to bring you goods and services, they serve the ones who put themselves at extreme risk to treat you when you're sick, the serve America by keeping it strong and healthy, they serve Holy God by honoring his COMMANDS to SERVE each other's interests.

I honestly cannot believe Republican took this belligerent anti-science anti-mask stance when it was so easy to do the damned considerate compassionate patriotic thing by masking up. But you know what its looking like we're not going to have to worry about that much longer because all indications are that Democrats will be in control of the White House, the Senate, and the House of Reps. Independents such as myself have come to the conclusion that we're willing to put up with the Marxist socialist race war China bowing suppressive anti-freedom anti-common sense radical left wing for a few years because they represent our best shot at getting COVID under control. If control of America swings far left it will be the GOP's COVID failure that made it happen. I've said it before and I'll say it again: the right just might have traded away the country and all they got out of it was a few months of cry-baby anti-mask QQ BUTTHURT and in the end the Democrats MAKE YOU put one on anyways. Unbelievable.

    “Abstract

There were 3 influenza pandemics in the 20th century, and there has been 1 so far in the 21st century. Local, national, and international health authorities regularly update their plans for mitigating the next influenza pandemic in light of the latest available evidence on the effectiveness of various control measures in reducing transmission. Here, we review the evidence base on the effectiveness of nonpharmaceutical personal protective measures and environmental hygiene measures in nonhealthcare settings and discuss their potential inclusion in pandemic plans. Although mechanistic studies support the potential effect of hand hygiene or face masks, evidence from 14 randomized controlled trials of these measures did not support a substantial effect on transmission of laboratory-confirmed influenza. We similarly found limited evidence on the effectiveness of improved hygiene and environmental cleaning. We identified several major knowledge gaps requiring further research, most fundamentally an improved characterization of the modes of person-to-person transmission.”

^That link: 14 trials resulting in a highly subjective, and never fully explained, opinion that a "substantial effect" (scope meaning of what constitute 'substantial' also not explained) was not achieved.

This one: 172 trials with a fully documented, weighted, graded, and comparative scale of findings demonstrating efficacy.

That is one source, from china.
Is influenza and COVID the same? Are their transmission rates the same? Their airborne viability?

You stated you have 13 others, are they all about something other than COVID as the metric of study?

As always, the Right Wing Propaganda Machine is in full force with their desire for everyone to work and die for the Right's profits.

Let's include the WHOLE quote from Fauci that masks saves lives and health even if some few virus gets through.

Yeah' respective for others is something that is entirely missing in the Republican Right's "Christian" values.

~ The problem is our "experts" say all kinds of things - too often contradicting themselves and each other. So we do our own research.

Lancet has been fully exposed as an appalling Fake Science source during this pandemic.

"The Lancet paper that halted global trials of hydroxychloroquine for Covid-19 because of fears of increased deaths has been retracted after a Guardian investigation found inconsistencies in the data.

The lead author, Prof Mandeep Mehra, from the Brigham and Women’s hospital in Boston, decided to ask the Lancet for the retraction because he could no longer vouch for the data’s accuracy.

Related: How were medical journals and WHO caught out over hydroxychloroquine?

The journal’s editor, Richard Horton, said he was appalled by developments. “This is a shocking example of research misconduct in the middle of a global health emergency,” he told the Guardian."
THE GUARDIAN, Covid-19: Lancet retracts paper that halted hydroxychloroquine trials, By Sarah Boseley Health editor, June 5, 2020.

Why would you accept the Lancet's conclusions - especially over the CDC's cited paper?

I think it is fair to conclude that when Fauci and the Surgeon General agreed that masks were useless they were telling the truth and relying on throughly tested science.
That also explains why so many of the 'people in the know' like Pelosi and Fauci get caught violating the mask rules

In fact, it is the CDC source. Are you challenging the scientists the CDC relied on? Why?
    Because they are Chinese?

Carlson’s an idiot huckster aiming to take over trump’s mantle.
But he’s just another loathsome toad spreading lies and ignorance.
There’s no point in arguing with mask deniers or flat earthers or other such crackpot nonsense.
Such inbred ignorance tends to suffer the consequences of natural selection.

There’s absolutely nothing false about it. There’s a reason why our country is getting their tail kicked by Covid. Because everybody has to be an ***** rather than putting on a damn little mask.

Ignorance is bliss, but in this case of Operation Covid, it is enabled by incessant fear-mongering. When the herd is frightened, it goes into stampede.

There are 2 ways to be fooled. One is to believe falsehoods, and the other is to refuse to believe what is true. Operation Covid involves both.
