The My Lai murders stopped when a chopper pilot and his gunner threatened to gun down the war criminals if they did not stop their slaughter, and the military charged the officers in charge.

The punishment was very inadequate. Abu Graib is not comparable to Mai Lai, the intelligence officers who encouraged the absurd humiliation and abuse of prisoners should have been punished.

Many of the illegal combatants held in Guantanamo should have been tried before a military court and if convicted executed shortly after capture. Spies and clandestine operators caught in civvies while engaging in armed combat should know that they may face a firing squad if captured.
    See WW II examples.

    I don't think so.

Back before the 1970's probably over 90% of Americans were American nationalist.

Before WW ll America was a nationalist country, America # 1. and isolationism was the rule.

Before WW ll America never had an alliance with any other country.

America may had been sucked into one of the stupidest wars ever fought, the First World War. But all of the countries who ended up fighting that war from 1914 to 1917 before America got sucked into the war found themselves fighting that war because of the alliances they had with other countries.

The only exception was Japan who declared war on Germany in 1914 knowing if Germany is defeated that Japan would come in control of German territory in the Central Pacific (Mandate Islands aka Micronesian Islands)
The fuse for war in the Pacific between the U.S. Navy and Imperial Japan was lit in 1905 and Japan needed those islands to sink the U.S.Navy's Pacific Fleet.

War Plan Orange that the U.S. military used to defeat Japan during WW ll was adopted in 1924.

In 1906 both Japan and America knew that there would be a war in the Pacific and it was inevitable.

Each of them (including the invasion of Irak) was a war crime. By the way, I don't think a single inmate of Guantanamo was found guilty of anything.

Carter also said he does not believe
he could have been President at age 80.
    Preaching "ageism".

Jimmy Carter Is The Best Ex President
America ever had. Active in a good way.
    No sarcasm or joke intended.
    Sincere.

Agree :flagus: is too war oriented.

Profit driven Military Industrial Government Alliance.
Only Tulsi can maybe put a stop to it, or slow it down a tad.
:flagus: will never be "overcome" because we can nuke the globe,
    just like Russia, China, etc.

If Europe pulled it's own weight, the USA wouldn't have to venture into many of these fiasco's.

If the USA didn't venture into some of these fiasco's the UN would be stamping their feet for our lack of commitment to world peace.

    Where are the Carriers?????

They are combatants captured in civilian clothing in a war zone. IOW, war criminals.
They should have been tried and executed shortly after capture.

How was the foolish invasion of Iraq a "war crime"?

    They were not combatants.
    For what reason?
The U.S. invaded a sovereign nation without cause and despite the U.N. explicit forbidding an invasion. A million innocent Iraqi men, women, and children were tortured/raped/murdered, the nation's infrastructure was deliberately destroyed and so were museums, artefacts, and historical heritage.

Members of Al Queda are combatants.

The UN has no authority to govern member states.

LOL! Well, I have slightly less authority than the UN.
I can't even interfere with traffic in NYC. ;-)
