Four cats (female). One dog (male). All from shelters. The dog and I are the only males in the house. We sort of stick together.
I had a cat named Kizzy. Got him and his brother off of a farm both near death. Kizzy died at 4 from a plaqued up dead heart worm. Found him dead at the foot of the stairs when I came home from work. He was an alpha male and quite a character. His brother is still with me but they were perfect together. They were both mostly white with big black spots and medium long hair. When they laid together they looked like one cat with two heads. This is his brother.
God... you made me spit all over my screen trying to read this out loud to my wife. Our dogs raping days are over, *snip*. Though we do have a small rescue dog right now who rapes my daughters stuffed animals if we forget to shut her door, (despite missing the ammunition to make it count). Anyway, smart people own cats? Sure, I think so because they are less maintenance and need less attention, gives a person more time to read books or solve crossword puzzles for sure. If you ignore a dog it and you will go crazy pretty quick, they give you a lot less time to contemplate things for sure. But whatever really, owning a cat never made anyone any smarter, and owning a dog doesn't make a smart person stupid. The really smart people most likely own no pets at all, maybe a fish....... What are we talking about??? I have two dogs and a stray.... Brilliant!
I have a cat, but no dogs. My cat stays inside all day, and stays out all night. He seems to sleep at least 14 hours a day, maybe much more than that. During the night he probably just finds someplace outside to sleep, who knows? My cat is awesome in every way.
Is there nothing better than a cat snuggling up to you and purring? Come on now. That being said, I just got adopted by a toy Chihuahua, if there is anything cuter I haven't seen it yet.
We have a boy and a girl. The boy we got first. The shelter called him Tristan, but because he was very shy, kind of a loner, and deadly to all creatures in the house, we decided to name him after Ryan O'Reilly from the old prison show Oz. He's officially Tristan Ryan O'Reilly, but we call him Reilly for short. The girl we got about 6 months later because, after he got comfortable here, Reilly started to act very needed and attention-starved All.The.Time! She has the most beautiful pale-green eyes we've ever seen, exactly like olives, so we named her Olivia.
^_- the article didn't say a thing about gender, and yet your whole personal take on the study was about gender. I find that pretty bizarre.
The intelligence difference is far simpler. It's far harder for people in the city to have dogs, and people in the city on average have a higher educational attainment. I really can't stand cats. Randian philosophy is one thing to discuss, but cats basically live it. They have zero loyalty - they use people, and cat owners are just happy to get whatever love and attention the cat is willing to give. I couldn't stand feeling so blatantly used by a pet. I much prefer a dog. And I don't mean a cat sized dog, I mean an actual dog.
Cats do have a strong independent streak to them, but i've had several very loyal and very affectionate cats. Plus, dogs don't purr.
I don't believe for one moment that cats are smarter than dogs. The so-called independence of cats is really their inability to think for themselves or learn basic commands. I like cats. I also know that they aren't that smart.
