When's the last time a cold decimated a nursing home? The truth will be brought home soon when we start losing politicians, like Iran.

Well, that makes it OK, then. What's the magic number where we can start regretting loss of life?

Government insiders are not ordinary people.
History suggests that, for the most part, they are corrupt low down scum. Hence the American Revolution.

"Society in every state is a blessing, but Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one: for when we suffer, or are exposed to the same miseries BY A GOVERNMENT, which we might expect in a country WITHOUT GOVERNMENT, our calamity is heightened by reflecting that we furnish the means by which we suffer."
    COMMON SENSE, Thomas Paine.

"Liberal" political bosses have made it clear that they could not care less about the loss of human lives.

Steyer."So if the answer is that we need those three things to happen for a course correction, I'd prefer to move a little quicker. How about that? But I take your point. Maybe we can have, like, a nuclear war and then we get a real course correction."

    RS "Wow – that's...sobering."

It didn't go over my head, it was such a dumb statement, I went over it.

Sympathy for loss of life from a multitude of natural causes does stop nature from continually producing natural causes. We may be reproducing slower than our replacement rate, but many countries are more than replacing those who die. There's a natural cycle of births and deaths. What is to regret?

Let’s regret it after it happens if it happens. I find your trembling in fear attitude repulsive.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) -- The Indiana State Department of Health is reporting seven flu-related deaths.

Five of those deaths are from individuals 65 and older.

The CDC states that people 65 years and older are at high risk of developing serious complications from flu compared with young, healthy adults.“

That will happen when there is a poorly maintained closed loop ventilation system, most cruse ships utilize very little outside air as it takes a lot of power to filter and remove the humidity from the ocean air, and I have yet to come a cross one that utilized either electrostatic air filters or UV air sanitizers.

As such, and as you so correctly stated they are nothing more than steel petri dishes and a great way to spread air borne diseases, then of course there is the galley, where less than minimum wage employees, with who knows what diseases they are infected with, preparing meals for the passengers.

And many of those employees are from countries where the idea of washing ones hands after wiping ones butt, is a unknown and not understood concept.

By the way I do agree with your comment about China sucks and steals IP all the time, a lot of startup business's have found that out the hard way when they have their products made in China, they suddenly discover they have a new competitor, that being the very same company they contracted with to manufacture their product.

And they wouldn't be able to go there if not for stealing others IP, good engineers have a combination of engineering skills coupled with a imagination which leads to new inventions, by and large the Chinese have very stunted imaginations which is a direct result of too many decades of living under Communism.

Open and free thought is naturally suppressed by living that way.

I find this new cavalier attitude toward people dying, equally repulsive. But I understand it. If Trump is downplaying this, well then, it can't be dangerous, can it?

You're going to be "repulsed" by a lot of people soon.

Actually there is nothing cavalier about accepting the reality that some people are going to die as a result of a disease or a lack of health care to diagnose what they are infected with.

The same thing happened in the early years of AID's, because doctors just didn't understand what they where dealing with, as a result they treated the symptoms, such as pneumonia without understanding why the persons immune system had become compromised and the treatments failed to produce the expected results.

It's not cavalier. Are you worried about the rest of the people who died today, or what caused their deaths? Or are you only fixated on the approx. 100 people around the world who died from coronavirus today? There are a heck of a lot more people dying from "other stuff".

So could an asteroid. Chances are about the same. The Flu has already killed 18,000 this season, I missed it when Seattle shut down over that. A little perspective here people.

I'm mostly worried about people close to me, like my parents. The rest are abstract numbers. I don't pretend to cry over strangers thousands of miles away. However, I'm also not writing off their deaths as "**** happens". Yes, people are dying from "other stuff". They're also dying from Covid, which they weren't just a few months ago. This is tragic. There's a silver lining, as there is to most things: we're going to rethink a lot of things after this. We got way too complacent over the years. No one's fault, really. Just the way people are.

What some of you are failing to appreciate are the downstream effects of mass hospitalizations, especially in poorer countries. As the beds fill up with coronavirus patients, Americans are going to become familiar with a word they won't soon forget: triage.
