Censor Or Else: Democratic Members Warn Facebook Not To "Backslide" On Censorship

    https://www.zerohedge.com/political...embers-warn-facebook-not-backslide-censorship

"With the restoration of free speech protections on Twitter, panic has grown on the left that its control over social media could come to an end. Now, some of the greatest advocates of censorship in Congress are specifically warning Facebook not to follow Twitter in restoring free speech to its platform."

No surprise, Adam Schiff, one of the most dinhonest people in Congress is leading this charge. He wants Facebook kept as a far left haven to censor according to what they want. Good idea?

…With the restoration of free speech protections on Twitter, panic has grown on the left that its control over social media could come to an end. Now, some of the greatest advocates of censorship in Congress are specifically warning Facebook not to follow Twitter in restoring free speech to its platform.

In a chilling letter from Reps. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., André Carson, D-Ind., Kathy Castor, D-Fla., and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., Facebook was given a not-so-subtle threat that reducing its infamous censorship system will invite congressional action. The letter to Meta’s president of global affairs, Nick Clegg, is written on congressional stationery "as part of our ongoing oversight efforts."

With House Republicans pledging to investigate social media censorship when they take control in January, these four Democratic members are trying to force Facebook to "recommit" to censoring opposing views and to make election censorship policies permanent. Otherwise, they suggest, they may be forced to exercise oversight into any move by Facebook to "alter or rollback certain misinformation policies."…

…In addition to demanding that Facebook preserve its bans on figures like former President Donald Trump, they want Facebook to expand its censorship overall because "unlike other major social media platforms, Meta’s policies do not prohibit posts that make unsubstantiated claims about voter fraud."…

…Clegg is given Schiff's telephone number to discuss Facebook’s compliance – an ironic contact point for a letter on censoring "disinformation." After all, Schiff was one of the members of Congress who, before the 2020 presidential election, pushed the false claim that the Hunter Biden laptop was Russian disinformation, and he has been criticized for pushing false narratives on Trump-Russia collusion in the 2016 election.

The letter to Clegg is reminiscent of another letter sent by several congressional Democrats to cable-TV carriers last year, demanding to know why they continue to carry Fox News. (For full disclosure, I appear as a legal analyst on Fox News.) As I later discussed in congressional testimony, it was an open effort by those Democrats to censor opposing views by proxy or by surrogate….

More proof of the regime using social media to do its bidding. This censorship is of the government and a violation of the 1st amendment. Democrats openly endorse censorship of content from the other side and are preparing to punitively regulate them if they don’t comply.

Here is a link to the actual letter that was sent:

    https://schiff.house.gov/imo/media/doc/letter_to_facebook_december_2022.pdf

"Reps. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), André Carson (D-Ind.), Kathy Castor (D-Fla.) and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), Facebook was given a not-so-subtle threat that reducing its infamous censorship system will invite congressional action. The letter to Meta’s president of global affairs, Nick Clegg, is written on congressional stationery “as part of our ongoing oversight efforts.”

I think when the government solicits and threatens a private company with an order to comply, this should rise to the level of removing said Democrats from their positions pending an investigation. This country was founded on the right to free speech with the government interfering. It appears, Democrats no longer feel this way and want to silence people and companies at will.

This is an assault on free speech and Adam Schiff and others are not hiding it at all. Here is another example:

"The letter to Clegg is reminiscent of another letter sent by several congressional Democrats to cable-TV carriers last year, demanding to know why they continue to carry Fox News. (For full disclosure, I appear as a legal analyst on Fox News.) As I later discussed in congressional testimony, it was an open effort by those Democrats to censor opposing views by proxy or by surrogate."

The proof that democrats through the government are coercing and blackmailing social media to act as their agents in the censorship of Americans is here. They are openly doubling down upon it now that they lost control of Twitter and their former censors there.

I think the rally cry at one time was "Democracy Dies in Darkness" from the Washington Post and I haven't seen this anywhere in #MSM or running on the 5PM news as an assault on Democracy. I think what they really mean is they lose their base of power if they actually report on things that eroding Democracy from the far left. No wonder WaPO just lost 500K subscribers and is laying off a ton of people. Maybe if they promoted real stories and went to bat for freedom, they would not be dying off.

Look, nobody is censoring Twitter but common sense and the fact that not even Musk has infinite resources. Twitter is hemorrhaging advertisers and Musk recently became the world's 2nd richest man. No advertiser wants to be known as supporting the New Nazis, it's that simple.

They most certainly were. You can read all of the internal commincations in the #Twitterfiles that proves Twitter execs were working with The FBI to censoe things they didn't like and to sway the 2020 election. The #FauciFiles are set to drop after they are done covering The FBI interference about the lockdowns and the cover up and censorship of stories on where the virus came from and other things the government or Fauci did not want to be discussed.

I suggest you actually read these internal memos, emails, documents and tweets, as well as DM's.

"In the past, many companies willingly — if not eagerly, in the case of pre-Musk Twitter — carried out censorship as surrogates, as the internal Twitter documents released by Musk have indicated. Some public officials knew they could circumvent the First Amendment by getting these companies to block opposing views by proxy. However, the public and the marketplace may succeed where the Constitution could not — and that’s precisely what these officials fear, as they see the control of social media erode heading toward the 2024 election."

Elon buying Twitter might change the entire landscape of social media for the better.

    From the articles linked above:

It is not hard to see the cause for alarm. This hold-the-line warning is meant to stop a cascading failure in the once insurmountable wall of social-media censorship. If Facebook were to restore free-speech protections, the control over social media could evaporate.

Despite an effort by the left to boycott Twitter and cut off advertising revenues, users are signing up in record numbers, according to Twitter owner Elon Musk, and a recent poll shows a majority of Americans “support Elon Musk’s ongoing efforts to change Twitter to a more free and transparent platform.”

The pressure on Facebook is ironic, given the company’s previous effort to get the public to accept — even welcome — censorship. The company ran a creepy ad campaign about how young people should accept censorship (or “content modification,” in today’s Orwellian parlance) as part of their evolution with technology. It did not work; most people are not eager to buy into censorship. Instead, many of them apparently are buying into Twitter.

The public response has led censorship advocates to look abroad for allies. Figures like Hillary Clinton have called upon European countries to force the censorship of American citizens.

The ONLY thing that ever concerned me about Covid is that I didn't get it or die from it and since neither of those things happened to me I'm happy. Conservatives apparently wanted me to come into work until I died and then pay them for whatever lost business they got from customers tripping over my corpse. **** them, we all needed a vacation and we got one though god knows how many of us died for it.

Dems can’t win in their own policies. They have no choice but to censor if they plan to remain relevant. In open debate they lose, as evidenced on this very forum.

That vacation cost a lifetime of additional suffering for the entire nation, across multiple generations. Well done.

More conducive with free speech and fairness to the 2 main popular political “sides”. For starters. And Elon has accomplished that.

Unfortunately, if Facebook does not follow the way of Twitter, the majority of users will flee Facebook in droves.

Nothing is more frustrating than writing something and then finding out it has all just disappeared.

Competition, it's the Capitalist way. If two big companies are both selling a similar product and one is inferior, consumers are going to choose the other.

(The only issue is that the platform has to first achieve a critical mass, before the rest of the would-be users flock to it)

Can you show me how Musk or Twitter is supporting New Nazis. I see it's time to once again list who Twitter has given a platform to without liberal complaints:

    blm
    antifa
    China
    Putin
    Crips
    Iran
    Cuba
Jean Pierre - the absolute queen of mis/disinformation

Except in places it wasn’t taken. Where I live we returned to full time in person education with precautions in August 2020 in Northern California and our test scores actually went up and the social costs of March to June mitigated. Most businesses never shut down after the initial 15 days shock. By May 1, much of business life was back to relative normal and outdoor events never stopped. Red states and defiant red regions in blue states recovered everything so much more quickly than others. Our economy is still booming because we defied our governor.

I don't think you have to worry much about that. The other day someone posted a meme of proud boys and I told him that the proud boys require a vow of celibacy.

And for this my account was restricted for " promoting dangerous people or organizations".

And that was literally all I said. I didn't say anything like you should join them or they're great or anything else.

But I bet you can go on there and talk about antifa all you want, even organizing real world events
