Attacks by extremists on Christian villages in the Central African Republic have left at least 15 dead and made around 1,000 people homeless. The raids were carried out by Islamist militia group, Séléka which seized control of the country following a coup in March 2013.
At least 14 villages in Bouar Diocese were completely abandoned after residents fled, Italian Carmelite missionary, Fr Aurelio Gazzera, told Aid to the Church in Need.

More than 970 refugees arrived at Fr Gazzera's mission in Bozoum last weekend (3 4 August). The priest visited the mainly Christian villages where the attacks took place, on the road between Bozoum and Bossangoa, on Wednesday (7 August).

He told Aid to the Church in Need: "It was terrible. Many villages are like ghost towns because they are completely empty. Witnesses told me that the rebels had thrown the bodies of those killed in the river." The dead included a five-month-old baby.

Witnesses gave the number of dead as at least 15 but according to Fr Gazzera it has to be assumed that "several dozen" have been killed. The priest said that predominantly Muslim villages "are not affected by such attacks, or only slightly".

In a sermon at his Cathedral of Notre Dame in Bangui, Archbishop Dieudonné Nzapalainga spoke out against the ongoing attacks by Séléka.

Preaching on Sunday 21st July, he said: "I can't remain silent while the sons of this country are the victims of the worst kind of barbarism. I can't remain silent while Central Africans are being tortured and killed, squashed like flies. I can't remain silent while our mothers and sisters are being raped.

"I can't remain silent while the dignity of the Central African is being trampled underfoot, while innocent people are being robbed, while the just and well-earned fruit of our country is being destroyed and looted as though we were in a house of cards.

"I can't remain silent when impunity reigns and a dictatorship of arms is being set up."

Séléka, which means "alliance" in the local Sango tongue, was formed by the merger of six Islamist rebel groups from Sudan, Chad, Darfur and the Central African Republic.
The rebels stormed the presidential palace in the capital, Bangui, on 24 March 2013, forcing President François Bozizé to flee to Cameroon.

A number of members of the political opposition entered into a governing agreement with Séléka and the militia leader Michel Djotodia was proclaimed the new president.

On Monday 12 August prayers for peace will be held by members of the Catholic, Muslim and Protestant communities in Bouar.

Renewed violence in CAR injures 200...

Doctors Group: 200 Wounded Since Friday in CAR
December 24, 2013 ~ A medical aid group says renewed violence in the Central African Republic has wounded nearly 200 people over the past five days.

Doctors Without Borders says increased violence in the capital, Bangui, began on December 20, when the group treated 49 people for gunshot wounds. Much of the fighting in the CAR is between mostly Muslim former rebels, known as ex-Seleka, and mostly Christian militias, known as anti-balaka.

VOA correspondent Idriss Fall, who has spent several days in Bangui, reports the increased number of gunshot victims could indicate a change in tactics for the anti-balaka fighters, who previously carried out most of their attacks with machetes. "It means that the anti-balaka people are having guns right now. Where do they come from? We don't know," said Fall.

Fall reported the capital was mostly calm Tuesday but tensions remained high because of the presence of armed groups. "The mob is still here. Even when you cross in the market places where, you know, you have a lot of people, you don't ever, ever know what could happen. They could take you for a French guy or they could take you for a Muslim. So, it is still very, very tense and very, very dangerous," he said.

At a Tuesday news conference, CAR interim president Michel Djotodia appealed for calm. Fall reported he also addressed an incident this week in which three presidential guard soldiers were killed by French troops. The president described the shooting as an accident. He said, at the time, the soldiers were not in uniform and did not have their papers, authorizing them to carry weapons.

Last Thursday, Amnesty International said more than 1,000 people had been killed in Bangui since violence flared earlier this month. French and African soldiers have been deployed in CAR to disarm fighters and curb the unrest. The country has endured months of instability since the Seleka rebels overthrew President Francois Bozize in March.

Wrong, this is the result of Christians failing to recognize the threat of Islam since 680 AD the foreign policy of Islamic leaders and their founders since 680 AD of expansionism and ethnic cleansing to murder everyone who refuse to submit to their will.

Violence in the Central African Republics capital, Bangui, is out of control, with fighting between Christians and Muslims resulting in lynchings and machete attacks, Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) said.
Since early last month teams working in several medical projects in Bangui have treated more than 1,000 victims of violence, the medical humanitarian organization founded in France in 1971, said in an e-mailed statement on Monday. People are coming in with machete wounds to the head, hands and arms, Laurent Sury, emergency coordinator of MSF in Bangui, said in the statement. Weve also seen people who have been stabbed, sometimes multiple times, in the abdomen, and people who have either been tortured or brutally beaten. For the most part, these are young men.

The Central African Republic was plunged into lawlessness after rebels overthrew Christian president Francois Bozize in March and Michel Djotodia, a Muslim, was appointed as national leader. Fighting between militia from the Christian majority and Muslim rebels flared up on Dec. 5. About 370,000 people, almost half the population of Bangui, have been displaced over the last three weeks, UNICEF said in an e-mailed statement on Monday. About 875,000 people have been internally displaced throughout the country since the outbreak of violence more than a year ago. At least two children have been beheaded in the fighting, UNICEF said, adding unprecedented levels of violence were being committed against youngsters.

UNICEF said that of the two children beheaded, one had also been mutilated. It also said it could verify the deaths of at least 16 children and 60 injured since the outbreak of fighting last month. We are witnessing unprecedented levels of violence against children, UNICEF representative in Central Africa Souleymasne Diabate said.
More and more children are being recruited into armed groups, and they are also being directly targeted in atrocious revenge attacks, he said. Targeted attacks against children are a violation of international humanitarian and human rights law and must stop immediately.

UNICEF said children forced into fighting by both sides in the conflict should be immediately disarmed and be protected from any reprisals. It also called for centers to be established for the reintegration of children as well as protect those still at risk. Health facilities have also been affected by the violence, MSF said. An armed man entered a dispensary, medical teams were forced to temporarily evacuate a hospital and Ministry of Health staff were threatened, MSF said. The atmosphere is becoming increasingly tense with each of these visits as the attackers become more and more aggressive, Thomas Curbillon, MSFs head of mission in Bangui said in the statement.

You are 1/2 right Wan. But the real problem is that Christians refuse to recognize their own apostasy into Talmudism, and refuse to recognize that most of so called Islam has the same problem.

UN approves 12,000-strong force for Central African Republic
April 10, 2014 ~ The U.N. Security Council on Thursday unanimously authorized an almost 12,000-member peacekeeping force for the Central African Republic, where fighting between Christians and Muslims has been raging for months.

The U.N. force will take over from nearly 6,000 African Union troops already deployed in the country, many of whom are expected to be incorporated into the new operation. A separate 2,000-member force sent by former colonial ruler France is authorized to support the U.N. mission, which will assume authority Sept. 15. The mineral-rich but deeply impoverished country plunged into anarchy when the Muslim-dominated Seleka rebel coalition seized power in March 2013. Rebel leader Michel Djotodia was accused by human rights groups of failing to rein in abuses by his followers, who raped, looted and killed. After his government collapsed in January, local self-defense groups made up mostly of Christians and animists turned their fury on Muslim civilians, whom they accused of supporting the rebels.

People have been hacked to death by machete-wielding mobs. Homes, businesses and places of worship have been ransacked and set on fire. The scale of the violence has led to an exodus of Muslims from western parts of the country, which U.N. officials have described as ethnic-religious cleansing. During a visit to the Central African Republic on Saturday, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said the French and African troops in the country were overwhelmed. He urged world leaders to heed the lessons of the 1994 Rwandan genocide, when more than 800,000 people died after majority Hutus went against minority Tutsis. The international community failed the people of Rwanda 20 years ago. And we are at risk of not doing enough for the people of the CAR today, Ban said.

The resolution submitted by France and approved by the Security Councils 15 members Thursday authorizes U.N. peacekeepers to protect civilians, facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid, support the disarmament of combatants and help the transitional government extend state authority and prepare for elections. It also authorizes the U.N. force to investigate abuses and help bring to justice those accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity. International human rights groups had complained for months that the international response to the crisis was not sufficient to stem the violence in a country about the size of Texas. Philippe Bolopion, the United Nations director at Human Rights Watch, called the approval of a U.N. peacekeeping mission great news, but not an immediate game changer. In comments posted on Twitter, he urged the United Nations to carefully vet the troops it takes from the African Union force, some of whom have been accused of contributing to the violence.

Last week, Chad announced that it would withdraw its 850 peacekeeping troops from the Central African Republic following accusations that Chadian soldiers killed about 30 people and injured more than 300 others at a heavily Christian market in the capital, Bangui, last month. U.N. investigators have said that the troops involved were members of Chads national army, who were sent to extract its nationals because they have been subject to attacks, and not members of the African Union force. The bloodshed continues with fighting between rival militias in the central town of Dekoa reported to have killed as many as 30 people this week. The clashes began Tuesday when Christian militiamen attacked the town, where fighters from the now disbanded Seleka had a tenuous hold, a local priest told The Associated Press. Most of the dead were civilians, killed when the ex-Seleka fired into a crowd of people they mistook for Christian militiamen, according to the priest, Everaldo de Suza.

The Muslims aren't killing Christian fighters in these instances. The Muslims generaly target Christian civilians that don't fight back.
