Someone working two jobs can't always make time to shop and cook, but yes, I'm inclined to agree that in most cases it's just neglect. That doesn't mean we should disregard instances where that isn't the case.

Lack of time due to people being overworked and underpaid is certainly a possibility. But there too, I wonder whether that might not be nothing but excuse-making.

People shouldn't eat so much and they would never get fat in the first place.

    Problem solved.

We shouldn't charge people with child neglect if they're working two jobs and barely have time to spend with their kids.

My kid sang passages from an unearthly and terrible tongue before finally fragmenting their prison of flesh into impossible shapes and returning to the void.

    Damn liberal indoctrination.

Growth hormones can't get into the body through food. Hormones (which are just proteins) that are eaten get digested and broken apart just like any other proteins. Growth hormone treatment involves injecting growth hormones, not eating them.

Unfortunately, that is what a lot of kids are doing these days, per my wife, a middle school teacher. They eat some of the school lunches, throw away the veggies (which are bland and tasteless, as they are prepared with no salt or butter), and then buy "hot fries" at the corner convenience store when they are walking home from school. I'm all for healthy foods, but you need to get kids used to it over time. The best solution is to pack your kids' lunch. My wife and I have done that for almost 13 years.

Everything is child abuse to the snowflake left wing. Obesity, spanking, owning a firearm...they can turn anything into abuse because everything hurts their little feelings.

Freedom and liberty :roflol:. The program was mandatory with the lunch gestapo checking bags. Of course her kids didn't have to eat that crap.

Except injecting children with drugs and later surgery thinking they can change a person's gender.
They love them some Dr.Moreau. In fact it's the progressive fashionable thing to do.

A good part of the reason for more childhood obesity is genetics. Hispanics and particularly Blacks are much heavier people with a genetic predisposition to gain weight. The most overweight cities and areas have the most Blacks typically.

The other driving factor is the liberal colossus of welfare and a sedentary lifestyle. With so many entitlements, there is no incentive to work. Food Stamps(SNAP) allow these lazy clods to buy almost any kind of unhealthy food.

    There are fixes:

    Limit immigration.

Replace food stamps with commodities like dry beans, brown rice and canned meats.

Phase out welfare and make the lazy work jobs even if it means picking crops.

Wouldn't it be more likely that blacks and hispanics are more likely to be impoverished, thus resulting in more unhealthy diets?

That sounds more like an issue with poor implementation of a policy rather than the policy itself.

    wut?

I'm fairly certain you're missing a few food groups...

"I want to help poor people eat better. The solution to this is to drive up the cost of commodities."

I'm all for "food stamps via soup kitchen" model. Anyone, anywhere, can walk in and get a bowl of beans, handful of seeds/nuts, green salad and a multivitamin during business hours. Instead of SNAP cards, they get free bus pass to get to the food depot. Lots of SNAP related social problems including obesity? SOLVED INSTANTLY. (and who wants to bet how empty and underutilized these "basic meal depots" would be? anyone, anyone? LOL) Logistically a "snap" lol to set up and administer too... compared to all the welfare equivalent JOBS programs for social workers that our safety nets create on the other side of the problem.

But much of our "safety net" philosophy is really "entrenched corrupt corporate Democrat (and some GOP) donor" philosophy, and so obviously neither efficient nor efficacious. Ever wonder why SNAP users can buy almost ANYTHING with the cards? There's your answer. Any idea how much revenue the soda companies would lose if SNAP didn't work on soda? Candy companies? Think the Complex doesn't know full well the cards are easy to fraud by buying soda (or other) and then selling it to crooked stores for cash? Don't stand outside in the rain, you'll drown!

Why we don't have this? like ALL gov-edu-union-contractor-grantee-trial lawyer-MSM Complex actions, the ostensible social issue is whitewash over the actual goal, enriching the Complex and enlarging its power.

I'm for giving the actual poor all the basic healthy food they want to eat.

If someone is over-fed----then they really are not that poor.

Funny. Real solutions to discussed problems are proposed. They solve the problems well and good, but happen to cut out the gov-edu-union-contractor-grantee-trial lawyer-MSM Complex as corrupt, incompetent middleman in the process.

... and *POOF!* go all the LW posters interested in helping themsel... erm... the poor.

    Must just be a coincidence.

From what I understand, it has more to do with what you eat, rather than how much - although quantity certainly plays a role. And generally, unhealthy food can be bought in large quantities (see: Fast Food)

Calories are calories in terms of weight gain by definition. Some calories (protein, healthy nut, seed and fish fat, fiber-filled veg and whole fruit carbs) cause greater sensation of satiety than others (white carbs, added sugars, cheap vegetable fat), and so overeating is less likely. For example, sit down and try to eat 2000 calories of broccoli or beans, very hard to do, compared to 2000 calories of birthday cake, very easy to do.

The reason people get obese is that we have a gigantic MSM part of an even larger gov-edu-union-contractor-grantee-trial lawyer-MSM Complex focused on making people feel bad, scared, resentful, inferior, greedy, and so feeling the need to eat more of their advertisers' garbage emotionally. The advertisers are also excellent at tricking dumb people that their junk is real food, making fruit juice look good for you for example (it's BAD for you), protein bars healthy (they are almost ALL garbage crammed with sugar), breakfast cereal look wholesome (it's ALL toxic waste... eh maybe oatmeal ok).

Surprisingly, one of the best starts to a diet is turning off the television, something everyone should do anyway, fat or skinny. It's all dreck and you won't miss anything worth experiencing.
