A odd group in deed, it is like thank play at religion and study but they do not seem to have learned the number one fundamental truth. Love thy neighbor as thy self.

I would recomend finding a Orthodox or Roman Church, they both will have the resources to help those in need and they will be unlikely too turn away those that they can help.

    From their web sight:

    About Unity
Unity is a positive, practical spiritual philosophy that teaches universal Spiritual principles, the principles that underlie all major religions. We do not have rules or dogma that must be followed or believed in order to be a part of Unity.
Unity teaches that each person is a unique expression of God created with sacred worth. As we learn to live from that awareness our lives are transformed. We realize that we no longer need live from fear but from love.
We study spiritual books from all walks of life, knowing that there is Truth in all of them that we can apply in our lives.
We emphasize the creative power of thought in our life experience. We know that we create our world by the thoughts, words and actions we hold, and when we learn to change our thoughts to life-affirming, positive thoughts, we experience a more fulfilling and abundant life.

Actually they are not realy and orginised religion, they say you do not have to believe anything to be a part of their little group. Though in other parts they claim to be Christian but I have not found one thing in their documents to support that claim.

So you open a Churches doors to help the poor in your community and all of the sudden your community becomes over run with vagrants. The crime rate rises and people look at the Church with disfavor.

Yup liberalism just finds new ways to leach off of those who work for a living.

The Church has a commitment to its neighbors. Hell here in the US a woman was shut down by the community for feeding the poor. Free food is just incentive for some to keep sucking until the bottle is MT. Then they move on or just break in to a home rape, kill and steal.

    From the link.

A hand up is not a lifetime handout.

These types of "churches" seem to me to be more philosophical organizations then true Churches. Their core belief is that you can believe in anything. Frankly I don't understand them and I do not see why they even mention God or Christians at all in their literature. You could be Buddhist and still attend or a scientologist.

In my opinion you need some form of scripture, a firm group of laws or rules, and a following to be considered an organized religion. Anything from the Orthodox Church to the Scientologists but these types of groups don't have that.

But if they want to call them selves a church more power to them. I just wish they would not claim to be Christian becuase they are not.

I do not believe it is my place to judge their theology on true God not true God. In my opinion all people that worship a God are worshiping the same God. But I also believe that there is a right and wrong way of doing it but I will not force my fews on those that do not believe the same as me.

But this church claims to be Christian and I do not see anything to support that. At the bare minimum I would say to be a Christian Church you would have to admit too Christs divinity. The same as if you claimed to be a Muslim church you would admit to Muhammad as being the prophet of God.

WOW, epic fail on the part of that Church. I am living in Canada and have seen many other various Church groups go out of their way to accommodate the poor.

Well, there you go, a self described thinking atheist ... who is a Satanist. I wonder how many of those crack heads troll threads like these?

I tell them to get jobs - the greatest thing that they could do for themselves.

    What do you do?

you'd be amazed at how many people that need food banks have jobs. food stamps don't always cover the month...when they qualify for them.

Get another job then. When I was 19, I worked at McDonalds in the morning and Wendys at night to feed myself and put a roof over my head.

In my late 20's I was living on friends couches, had roomates, whatever I could for shelter. I was working 3rd shift at a gas station so I could go to school full time while I was in college. Delivering pizzas for extra cash on the weekends.

If you cant feed yourself and/or better yourself, you are too dam lazy.

You have my most sincere respect for your altruistic efforts. I wish there were more out there like you.

    My turn.

I did nothing for the poor today.
