    https://www.foxnews.com/politics/sa...ckage-over-gop-bid-to-change-unemployment-aid

Bernie Sanders said Wednesday afternoon he might torpedo the Senate's compromise stimulus package unless Republican senators dropped their objections about what they called a "massive drafting error" related to unemployment benefits, in the latest twist to a process that has been marked by delays and last-minute hurdles.

I'm beginning to question if congress ever planned to pass this bill in the first place.

Well he was not gonna get the nomination anyways so this move won't hurt him politically.

Crazy old man needs to go fishing and let this package start helping people. If corporations start acting stupid they can be dealt with. People need money now in so many cases.

    Nice, thanks Bernie.

First Democrats hold the bill hostage by trying to piggyback a bunch of nonsense that has absolutely nothing to do with the coronavirus. Now Sanders is nitpicking, trying to play "workers hero" at a time when the overwhelming majority of Americans are probably thinking "just pass the damn bill!".

Bernie is a piece of **** for this. To hell with him and his threats, narcissistic moron.

Might be the key line in the 2020 election. The Dems are just playing with fire.

I'm beginning to be doubtful that congress ever had any intentions of passing this bill in the first place.

Government must provide immediate support for the millions of workers they are idling or stop blocking them from returning to their jobs.

Umm..... the screw up in the bill is actually kind of important. It makes it so some people will get paid more to be unemployed than to be employed. I think we can all agree that's a dumb idea and subject to all sorts of problems from abuse to labor shortages? It also seems like it should be a pretty easy (and important) fix.

    From the article:
The concern from Sens. Lindsey Graham, Tim Scott, R-S.C., Ben Sasse, R-Neb., and Rick Scott, R-Fla., is that the current version of the bill could pay workers more in unemployment benefits than they're currently making, by sticking a $600 per week payment on top of ordinary benefits that are calculated as a percentage of income. This could disrupt the labor market further, the lawmakers warn.

If we didn't want people to stay home anyways, because of a pandemic, I would see an issue.

We can't go back to normal until the virus is under control. Once we're back to normal there will be no reason to pay those who're able to work.

All these people in Washington need to pull their heads out of their asses.

What about the people currently working in "essential services"? I don't know, I can't see anything but the potential for problems and abuse if we make it so people can get paid more not to work.

Don't you think a stressed out grocery store clerk would rather get paid more to stay home? What about delivery guys? The garbage man? The toilet paper stockboy?

And it seems like it should be such a simple correction.....if it was truly a mistake to begin with.

Do you receive unemployment benefits if you quit?

There is a reason the U.S,Chamber of Commerce is pushing this bill like there was no tomorrow,it is a gift to them and their clients.

Me as in literally myself? I own my own business, so there's no quitting :)

However, from my time in the corporate world, I've seen how people who'd just as soon "quit" make themselves such horrible employees they get "fired" instead so as to reap benefits.

Does either of those answer your question? I guess I'm not sure where you're headed.

I'm not looking to argue, just understand your position.

If you think it is ok to pay people more not to work than to work, I'm genuinely curious at your reasoning. Or is it just that you want this passed asap and are ok with this loophole possibly leading to abuse, so long as it is passed asap.

Do you think correcting this error would take too much time away?

May I ask your employment situation ---- relative to the discussion ---- since you asked mine? Have you been unemployed by the shutdown and would you stand to gain more not to find other work?

I think we're generally of a similar mind here, so I'm staying open to hearing your thoughts.

So your concern is that some who're currently employed may intentionally get fired just to reap a few hundred dollars in temporary additional unemployment benefits? You think that's worthy of holding up a stimulus bill during a pandemic?

You haven't answered any questions yet.

Are you ok with people getting paid more not to work?

Why wouldn't you want this simple error corrected before the bill is passed?

Do you worry that "essential" jobs may find themselves shorthanded when their employees realize they can get paid more not to work?

Do you stand to benefit from this loophole, hence you could be biased?

Do you realize it is our taxpayer money which will be paying people more not to work? Are you ok with that? (Are you in the taxpayer demographic?)

Anyone, feel free to answer. Hopefully you will too @ModCon

I stand to get $1,200, that I can survive without.

As to the rest, no... don't care. None of your concerns are worth caring about at the moment, especially since it's just partisan ideological nonsense being clung to in the worst of times.

Message to the Republicans: You did a good job and got the Dems to drop most of their pork projects. The $600 extra/week for a few months is peanuts so STOP the Belly ache crying , and PASS this bill like you AGREED just 24 hrs ago

Maybe I've confused you with someone else and given you too much credit.

"Ideological nonsense"? You clearly don't know who you are talking to any more than I do. You're talking like a Pelosi water carrier. Perhaps rethink who is the victim of ideological nonsense. ;)

The promise of free money has got formerly conservative leaning folks sounding like Bernie supporters. It's like a parallel universe!

If we can’t fund corona virus relief without solar/wind credits, airline emission/ carbon neutral requirements, racial reporting of corporate executives, mandatory minimum wages, union collective bargaining agreements and funding for the arts, then to hell with it, it’s not that important.

Yes it would look like a parallel universe to someone who can't temporarily step outside of an ideological box in the face of a pandemic that's simultaneously killing people, the medical infrastructure, and the economy.

    Pass the bill already.

Republican - hurr durr, teh unemploymintz unfair, no stimulus

Democrats - muh green new deal, no stimulus *broken computer noises*

Socialists - REEEEE teh workerz REEEE, no stimulus

Citizens, medical infrastructure, businesses- PASS THE ****ING BILL ALREADY

The bill pays unemployment benefits at $23/hour in South Carolina. Like Lindsey Graham says, how can the private sector compete with that? We’ll be paying for people to sit on their couch.
