Could Lose Kids Over Unpaid School Lunches

KINGSTON, PA. (AP) — A Pennsylvania school district is warning that children could end up in foster care if their parents do not pay overdue school lunch bills.

The letters sent recently to about 1,000 parents in Wyoming Valley West School District have led to complaints from parents and a stern rebuke from Luzerne County child welfare authorities.
The letter claims the unpaid bills could lead to dependency hearings and removal of their children for not providing them with food.

"You can be sent to dependency court for neglecting your child's right to food. The result may be your child being taken from your home and placed in foster care," the letter read.

Four parents owe at least $450 apiece.

Progressive mind think - pay thousands to foster parents and traumatize children and bust up families, over a $450 lunch bill.

 

Why don't they just make the kids wash dishes to pay off their lunch bill? I mean, if they want to make sure the kids learn that to eat, you gotta pay for it some how.

You can't force those on welfare to work for it.

 

Says the party of "we want to keep families together".

 

The parents should learn Spanish and sneak over the border if they want this to go away.

 

If 1,000 parents received the letter, are they all close to the $450 in the hole the 4 families are??If so I can see this as a serious major financial .problem for the school district.Taxes being hiked just to cover delinquent lunch bills??
