China was shutting everything down in February, and that was the point at which we should have been shutting down our airports, border, testing agressively, and shockpiling medical supplies. None of this happened, and our border and airports are still open. You are right that China should have shut down a lot sooner. We were watching the mess in China, but we just sat around waiting for the virus to do the same here. We actually hard ample warning and we didn't take it. South Korea had less warning that we did, and it hit them sooner. They did the right thing and now they are opening back up.

    Well, undoubtedly, the SHOULD HAVE/SHOULDN'T HAVE will be debated for a long time by all affected nations, for example;
Had we implemented/enforced social distancing, lock downs, and other preventive measures on March 12 versus March 15, then 3 days "sooner than later" equates to one Covid doubling time, thus, and its peak, highly significant.

Medical treatment is only supportive at present, to my knowledge.
Curative drugs are still being sought.
Wealthy people usually have better health that poor people, but I don’t think the virus is a respecter of that. Young healthy people succumb too.
    It’s a “stark realisation” situation isn’t it?

While I agree that many Americans would have died regardless of the actions taken or when, I look at the vast differences in outcomes now happening in CA & NY. NY has half the population of CA, but ten times the casualties from the virus. Many factors contribute to this extreme disparity, including natural geography & lifestyles, but the governor of CA was the FIRST governor in the U.S. to close down his state as a countermeasure to the virus, & that appears to be working. I commend CA & its leadership in this pandemic. Trump could learn a lot from them.

Trump is not the governor of New York. Your beef is with Cuomo.

I would like to bring up another country. While people have commended South Korea and China for their response to the virus outbreak I would like to mention a nation that is a semi socialist darling of the American left.

    Sweden.

Sweden has pretty much NOT closed their country down or implemented a bunch of restrictions regarding social distancing. For example while universities and high schools have been closed, primary schools are still having classes. Yet Sweden has avoided a large scale outbreak and avoided seriously damaging their economy so far.

Cuomo has been light years ahead of Trump with his effective leadership during the entire pandemic.

I've posted on this before. I'm not sure you can say Sweden is doing so good. Sweden has 47 deaths per million people, whereas US has 31 deaths per million people.

Plus there were already systemic, preexisting implements in the way, going back almost two decades, which made dealing with this virus even more difficult:

    1) Policy for Diagnostic Tests for Coronavirus Disease-2019 during the Public Health Emergency

    2) Face masks in national stockpile have not been substantially replenished since 2009

    3) Federal officials repeatedly warned that US hospitals lacked enough ventilators

    4) FDA Relaxes Rules To Allow for More Ventilators, Finally

With all the Obama/Biden saboteurs left behind, Trump was left with no choice but to fire Obama/Biden appointees.

Donald Trump is not responsible for the coronavirus, but he is responsible for failing to prepare our nation to respond to it.

Obama Admin that @JoeBiden was a VP of for (8) yrs repeatedly sought Millions in @CDCgov funding cuts, despite @JoeBiden attacks on @realDonaldTrump preparedness... @FoxNews

Failing to prepare? Yes, fed govt should have done more, but you & Obama ran the executive branch for EIGHT years, you depleted the National Stockpile & didn’t replenish it. And when Trump rightly halted flights from China, you blasted it as “xenophobic.” Stop playing politics. https://twitter.com/joebiden/status/1246524690668998656 …

Biden can't explain WHY the respirators used up during the 2009 crisis weren’t restocked, (his deteriorating mind may not remember).

It can’t only be ‘lack of funding.’ After all… we all remember how pallets of cash found its way onto an unmarked plane bound for Iran.

    It just wasn’t a priority.

Shooting down the stupid, unthinking arguments made by many of the TDS afflicted Trump haters, is like shooting ducks in a barrel.
