omfg, so patethic...why not trash the worlds no.1 sport?
is there an award for the worlds most pathetic person? ann seems to try hard to get it...
there are 2 simple reasons why football (the real one) isn't popular in the US: 1. the US suck at it (meaning they don't have a shot to win anything); 2. there is only a small room for advertisement...the 2nd is probably more important, unless football introduces timeouts football will never be big in the US

i just can't believe what a (*)(*)(*)(*)ty person coulter is... a modern goebbels..

the usa no longer sucks at soccer, its solidly in the 2nd tier of nations which is very respectable, even the best countries no longer take the usa for granted...

Good call on the media/advertising, US corporate media is so locked into the timeout format of n american pro sports it's at a loss on how to sell/profit from the non stop aspect of soccer...but media will have to come to grips with the new kid on the block or lose out on many millions in advertising dollars...

i know the US don't suck at it, thats why i wrote the brackets, but they don't have a shot of winning, its probably better than ever, but it still is about zero...i actually have a lot of respect for the US football team, they are a great team, they did deserve to get through, they really show the american spirit of never giving up and fighting for one goal (wow thats quite ambiguous:clapping:)

What do you expect from a dried-up old newz bunny whose only "skill" is reading talking points from a teleprompter? The last time I saw that plastic surgery disaster on TV, she looked like her next gig is going to be hosting "Tales from the Crypt". Is it any surprise at all that she's clueless about sports? Jeez, if she stepped outside the sun would probably turn her to dust...

I wouldn't say zero chance of winning but yes it's low...the top tier teams will defeat 2nd tier teams 9 out of 10 times in games that matter....but! Ocasionally with good seeding in a tournament and other 2nd tier doing you favours and knocking off the big seeds(italy, spain, england) a 2nd tier side can maneuver themselves into a semi final game withou facing a giant and then its two games where a lucky bounce, a referees decision and a good game plan can capture the big prize...tiny Denmark and Greece both did that each winning the European title against all odds...it looks like greece has somehow made it to the next round and probably algeria while top ten seeds are already bookoing their flights home...
USA is through to the final 16 and plays Belguim which has a definite talent edge but this is a winnable fixture for the USA, the final 8 is within reach, but then it gets tougher, argentina likely awaits the winner of Belgium/usa

What's the sense of playing a sport where you lose but still win? :icon_pee:

Well.....the NHL playoffs were a lot more entertaining with rounds of 7 games instead of just one.....

ok I'll try keep it simple...the final wc tournie is a two year build up, it starts with some 200 nations playing in separate mini leagues because a league format of 200 teams is impossible...each team plays a home and away league format just like the nfl, from each mini league the two top teams advance to the WC where they are placed in mini leagues again but since the tournie is played over one month they play each only once, both of those mini leagues is no different thanan nfl season, eliminating the weaker teams in the league/conference advancing the strongest to advance to the single game knockout/playoff rounds...
The WC playoffs that understand start sunday, lose and you go home...the entire system is designed to eliminate weak teams and ensure the two most deserving teams are in the final...

Something to be said for multiple games or a single game knockout...the nhl method is intended to eliminate a one off performance where a weak team upsets a strong team, which is similar to the group stage of the WC...it also brings in a lot of extra revenue extending the competition...a single game knockout has more tension, the equivalent of the deciding game of a 7 game series...

seriously I'm finding 100% of men who have these gay issues are actually gay themselves, the phoney derision you display being a cover for your own personal attraction to men...it's a new world it's okay to come out you'll be accepted...

Where in any sentence I wrote did I discuss being homoesexual? So far you are the only one that interpreted playing soccer in skirts as being homosexual. That's very interesting. Did that thought please you? Freudian Slip much? LOL

Don't forget home ice advantage. IME the first 2-4 games are influenced more by home ice than anything else.

If a one-game series can be predicted by some inherent advantage, or is heavily influenced by things like a "bad day", then a longer series is needed to make it truly competitive.

home ice is an advantage thats true but single match finals are usually held in neutral locations...
