I leave for work at 5am and get home around 5-7pm

came home the other day and my dog, Mocha, was out of the yard wandering the street about 2 blocks from my house. She heard my vehicle and just followed me home. I get there and the gate is closed, but the latch on it was up. So I figured I forgot to close the latch and she nosed open the gate (that falls back shut when you let go) No biggie, I'll just make sure to latch it, right. AND I put a clip in the latch to prevent it from opening incase Mocha was jumping up and knocking up the latch..... just in case.

2 days later, I was at my g/f's house, and my brother parked his truck at my house to go to the fair. He called and said I had a note on my 2nd vehicle parked outside the fence. It said "I have your dog, Bonnie" and left a number. (I don't know who Bonnie is) I tried to call the number, but I misdialed (inversed two numbers) and didn't realize it until I came by the house later. When I got there, the clasp was gone out of the latch. Either way, when I found the mistake on the phone #, it was already late, so I said I'd call the next day.

On Sunday, I drive by my house as me and the g/f went to my parents for dinner. Mocha is back in the yard and there is a note on my front door that says "sorry I took your dog, she's just so precious, can she come and visit next week. It's just me, a dog, and a cat and would love company.

On Monday, I go to work. I got home early, around 4:30 and Mocha is out again. I latched, I secured, I even fixed a suspect spot in the ditch. I made sure she couldn't accidentally get out. She is in the same area I found her previously. She follows me home and I have two notes and the latch on my door again saying 1. she's going to bathe her, clip her nails, and then a 2nd note that said thanks.

I put Mocha inside and went to a friends house, and when I came back, I figured I was going to padlock my gate. I got the lock ready, hooked it but did not lock it since I would be leaving at 5am and I would just lock it behind me. Mocha went outside.

When I left this morning, Mocha is there, but the lock was on the ground by the gate. There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY Mocha could have knocked it out. This crazy bish came in between 11pm and 5am.

I had been trying to avoid calling or texting (so she wouldn't have my number) but I text her today and said stay off my property and leave my dog alone. Even left a note on the gate.

Where I THINK the lady lives is at a trashy 300$ month 1 room apartment complex 2 blocks up.....some of the shadiest people you'll ever see. Either way, what are my options?

I'm going right home after work, should get there around 4..... I'm not sure if mocha will be there. She seems like a good natured old lady.... but damn..... who does this? Just "borrow" a dog?

Dude, I can understand your concern, but really think about it.... and you said yourself she seems like a good natured old lady. Take a few minutes of your time and meet w/her and you may walk away feeling better about her.... at least try.

She bathed your dog, clipped her nails and then left a note thanking you for that. She sounds harmless, but a lonely gal. Maybe you can find a dog for her? Anyway I'd sit down w/her to talk, just to get feel about the situation. You sound like a decent guy - you're an educated man and will get this resolved one way or the other....

As far as her living in a bad part of town, well m/b she doesn't have a choice.....

Let us know how it worked out.........

I"m thinking you need to spend more time with your pup. If she's an outside dog and doesn't see you much---she's probably going crazy and attracting the attention of lonely ladies. I'm not being flip by the way. I had an outside dog that took second place when babies started coming. It was very sad. He would spend the entire day trying to escape the back yard to find a pack to roam with.

I'm confused about something, is the latch and locked inside or outside?

Got to thinking - there may be some dementia kicking in there....

I know a lot of my neighbors and there's one down the block who's in her late 70's, I'm guessing and she's always stealing other people's flowers and replanting them in her little garden.....

She's been told repeatedly to stop, but she does it anyway... I look at her as a flower thief, but harmless. I really think there's dementia there...

I spend time with puppy (inside/outside dog, outside when I'm not there) just not during work days. But compared to the summer, when I'm off... yeah, I don't spend near as much time. But it's not abnormal amounts.

With that said, I'm moving in with g/f and her son in early december. he's 7 so I'm sure Mocha's about to get all the attention she wants,.... and more, very soon.

on an update.... I came home right after work. The note I left on the fence (and I text her the same thing with no response) was, "thanks for bathing her, but I need you to leave her in the yard, as I've found her wandering the neighborhood twice now." When I got home, the paper was ripped up and all over my yard by the gate it was put on.

it's a chain link fence.... it has the u-shaped latch with a hole in it where you can put a lock in it, or a clip, whatever.

I can't help that. I drove by this place this summer. 2 incidents there that would have EVERYONE on here scratching their heads and being just as perplexed with this situation and the people living there....

I drove by one time with 2 cops and an ambulance there... cops were putting on blue gloves and standing outside the doorway was a naked gray haired little old lady.....(and yes, carpet matched the drapes :barf: )

incident two.... an old man was in the parking area wearing nothing but a leopard banana hammack pelvic thrusting at an old lady. Tan lines and it was a t-back.

There is nothign about people in those apartments I want to have a conversation with.

I would probably not do anything that would escalate the situation and just focus on moving out the area. If what you said about her ripping up the note you left is true, she may be a little unstable (well, "borrowing" a stranger's dog is already considered unstable....).

Maybe your gf would allow your dog to "move" early?

we've discussed that... but gf currently lives in an apartment.... we are moving into a new place together that we haven't found yet... If it was just me moving in with her.... definately.

Have you thought about installing a camera (wireless ip) to monitor the dog while you're away? Just throwing suggestions out.

well, possibly... but since the lady did seem to take the hint yesterday... I may not need it.

oh yeah... as I got home to the note... Mocha did not meet me at the gate like normal.... I went by 1 other of her normal sleep spots and she wasn't there. I had to use the bathroom but I thought crazydoglady had just lifted mocha over the locked gate..... Well, sitting on the thrown, debating my next move... I heard Mocha pawing at the door. So she was there.

So let me get this straight. There's a fence to your backyard, with the lock on it, and your neighborhood breaks that lock open, or something like that?

the fence goes around my entire yard.... that has a lock on it now. It didn't. It used to have just a clip (because I thought my dog was nosing it open herself and getting out)

She hasn't broken the lock since I put it on there

But she did text me back yesterday. But I did not respond.

Again, she seems well intentioned... but I think I'll pass

OKKKK, gotcha! And finding your note all ripped up and scattered isn't a good sign of a healthy mind - to me, that would indicate irrational anger. Nope, probably wouldn't do any good to try to have a conversation w/her...

A 7 yr old boy and a puppy is THE answer - congratulations! And wish you and soon-to-be family the best......

Taking care of a dog full time is different than taking care of a dog when you're out.

she has a dog, and a cat, according to her note she left on my front door.

FWIW - Mocha is a great dog. I can't blame the old biddy for falling in love with her.

What a cute dog, lovely eyes.
If your neighbor is that well intentioned, how come you found the dog walking around on the street? Be glad the pup didn't get hit.

Just shoot her next time she comes up on your lawn to abduct your dog. Do you live in Florida?
