She will die if she doesn't abort her severely disabled fetus, but the law in her country says no abortion in any case:

    http://www.richarddawkins.net/news_articles/3804#

I am sure someone will come up with the bright idea that the woman shouldn't have had sex if pregnancy was going to be such a risk, but that isn't the issue. She is pregnant, she will die unless she terminates.

Lifers, especially those who are opposed to abortion in all cases, should the abortion go ahead?

Obviously I believe that her life is way more important than the life of a fetus which is killing her.

Time to remove the parasite before it does any more damage.

Her life is important too. Which is why...I do believe all people for life in my country would make exceptions if the womans life is in danger.

Now my question to you is.....should it be legal for a woman to abort a viable and healthy baby even up to the 9 month gestation just because she wants to for any reason?

This is what happens when countries try to make abortion illegal entirely, then when a woman needs one to save her life, well sucks to be her I guess! This is just like what happened to that woman in Ireland. I hope she finds a way to escape this country or that they will make an exception despite their extreme laws on abortion to allow her to save her own life!

14% of Americans want the US to be just like El Salvador, with no exceptions.

Perhaps El Salvador has some bad laws when it comes to abortion.

But even if all abortions were completely banned, that would still be better than the widespread abuse of abortion we are seeing now.
Far more perfectly normal healthy babies are terminated late second trimester than the number of women who would die if abortion were banned. You see, once you make some types of abortion legal, it then becomes another challenge to make sure the abortion clinics are only doing legal procedures, at the appropriate gestations, for the appropriate reasons.

I haven't seen anyone argue that their aren't exceptions in extreme cases for abortions. I'm not saying that their's not anyone out their who wouldn't make that arguement but most pro lifers, myself included, understand that their are circumstances such as this where it's required.

I am sure most pro-life would not agree with this, just like most pro-choice dont want to allow killing a third trimester foetus on a whim. These are extremist positions.

When are you going to understand that criminalizing abortion doesn't save fetuses, and causes more maternal deaths?

When a woman dies from a botched abortion, the fetus dies too.

Latin America, where most abortions are illegal, has a much higher abortion rate than the US.

How stupid is that? The fetus isn't going to survive anyways, so why not at least try to save one of the two lives?

I have no problem with the exception to save the PHYSICAL life of the mother. The problem is, our laws are written to include MENTAL health which could mean any d*mn thing they want it to.

Yes, it could mean that the mental health of the pregnant woman would suffer.

It's so 11th century to think mental health is not as important as physical health......

Late term abortions are very restricted and rare. For instance, in New York:

Mental health is not a trivial reason for abortion:

It is when it's used as a means of BC. Oh, well, I'm depressed today and I don't really think I want to have this baby. Please! There is rarely any mental health issue that wouldn't allow a woman to carry to term. Even in Bi-polar disorders, I've read of women going off their meds to have the baby.

I was depressed with each of my four pregnancies. So what? Should I have aborted them instead? Because dag gone it, my mental health suffered.

The importance lies in whether the woman is capable of carrying to term or not, and clearly, in the vast majority of the cases they can.

Your posts sounds like you think you are the only woman who was ever pregnant.... so ALL women should have a pregnancy exactly like yours because????????????

And why were you depressed when BLESSED with a pregnancy???? Have some second thoughts? Didn't like that PRECIOUS GIFT????

...see, women are in-di-vid-uals.....look it up in the dictionary.....

Was it suicicidal depression? I ask because that is a common mental health condition requiring abortion. A woman doesn't just walk into the abortion clinic or hospital and say "I'm feeling kinda bad today, I'd like an abortion quick.", doctors make the recommendation. Women don't ask for late-term abortions casually. Why would a woman suffer through months of pregnancy, and when it's about over, try to find an excuse for an abortion?

LOL, you think all those questions marks make some kind of point? No, they don't. Obviously you missed my point.

No I don't think all women's pregnancies are alike. Heck, even all mine weren't alike. So I'm not stupid like your ????????????? seem to be implying. The point was my mental health suffered. The difference between mine and their's? I wanted the babies, they don't. There is rarely a reason to abort for mental health reasons. And for late-term abortions, there is NONE. ZERO. Deliver the baby and if you don't want it, give it up for adoption.

I just have to laugh at this. You think that mental health can be serious enough for a woman to have to take meds (meaning it's a physical problem/correction) and would have to abort because of that, but think mine had to be purely in my head because I carried them to term. It shows how biased your thinking is.

Do you really think insulting me works?

There is no reason for a late term abortion. NONE. ZERO. Deliver the baby and if you don't want it, put it up for adoption.

And no, I wasn't suicidal, but it wasn't a cakewalk. I had the reverse of Postpartum Depression...I had it while I was pregnant instead of after. My spirits lifted afterwards.

Oh in one of my other posts, I mentioned Bi-polar (very depressed and suicidal) women going off their meds to have babies. The difference is they wanted the baby and did what they had to to make it work.

No, mental health is not purely "in the head"...that's your erroneous thinking.

I had no intention of insulting you but you didn't seem to know that all women are not you....and your experiences aren't everybody's and do NOT determine law.

And you cruelly believe that a mentally unhealthy woman's problems are all solved by aborting and killing a baby. (And how do you know I'm not a doctor?)

As for adoption, please...there are many, many people waiting to adopt (1-2 million by current stats). But since the late term abortions are "rare" (according to you guys), then we should have no problem finding someone to take any baby put up for adoption. Oh and as a side note, I find that statement to be racist... the one in quotes.

No, it was EXACTLY the point you made with your cutsy questions. Whether you will admit it or not is another story.

When there is a "but" following "I had no intention" then you know darn well that you did exactly that. And the debate isn't about the law.

Just a reminder that this thread IS about the law...it's right in that there OP. :)

NO, there are NOT as many prospective parents as there are children in the system waiting for Anti-Choicers to adopt them...Many are there for years and stating that they can't be adopted because they're the wrong color or have physical defects is NOT racist...Anti-Choicer/Pro-Adoption folks who only want perfect white babies IF they EVER adopt one , are the racists.
There would be NO children waiting for adoption IF IF IF Anti-Choicers would walk the walk instead of just blubbering about adoption...
