So socialism would consider me, someone who's paid my way in life, equal with someone who doesn't have any interest in working and is on the government dole lol?

the capitalist is the job creator, employment at will puts the burden on the laborer to make themselves attractive for employment.

this social safety net concept allows able bodied and sound minded individuals to sit idle and collect a check from the taxpayer.

it does not make them appear dysfunctional to society for a legitimate excuse to earn its compassion. this kind of social safety net amounts to a right by law as defined in the legal concept of employment, to be lazy?

they have no duty under this concept to make themselves suitable for future employment, because it is their right to wait patiently and collect taxpayer income until the capitalist creates a job that fits their interest.

that means those who are unfit to work will never achieve their pursuit of success or happiness, and only the ones who do work will ever be protected in order to achieve it.

i think that's an unfair demand, it amounts to forced labor. people should be able to freely choose not to work, while still having their rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness protected with welfare.

The protection provided by government applies to the safety from harmful acts being inflicted by others while in pursuit of ones success or happiness, meaning government must provide as safe an environment as possible which allows everyone to carry out their pursuit which results in their success or failure as the case may be in maintaining their life and desired achievements.

The revenue collected by government is the result of labour, which forces those who labour to labour more and/or harder in order to pursue their happiness AND that of others who government provides for. Charity at the local level is much more rationally applied and cost effective than government welfare assistance, especially that provided by a centralized government. Redistribution of revenue collected from all the working people and States results in greater dependency on the Federal government and little or no care about the debt incurred. An improvement, while not a full solution would be for the Federal government to provide welfare funding to the States as a loan, requiring the State to repay the Federal government any funding used to provide welfare assistance to that States citizens creating a fund to borrow from when needed. As it is, welfare funding is simply a government run form of charity with little or no incentive for States to try and reduce it as it brings in more money to the States and keeps many State workers employed.

People should have the right not to work if they want as long as they don't expect me to work to feed them.

And, with someone who fought and perhaps died for their country. You have to take the good with the bad.

Well then, some young kid that doesn't want to work and expects me to feed them obviously isn't serving in the forces. Oh your old and not dead? doesn't the country already give you benefits for that.

I don't think the welfare system is ruining our economy; I think the lack of meaningful work is ruining our economy.

The more people who can find meaningful work, the fewer people we'll have on welfare.

    My two cents ...

They are creating job booms, but they're creating them in other countries.

Is there any reason for a capital gains preference for expatriate Firms? Ordinary income tax should be applied.

As long as taxes are being paid in accordance with our laws, but why are you so against other countries achieving income equality with U.S. workers?

Ha! I am not in favor of any tax relief for U.S. corporations who manufacture overseas.

I am in favor of doing everything, no holds barred, to get them to want to manufacture here in the U.S.

The capital gains preference is for US consumption.

other countries don't have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness in their constitution.

in those countries forced labor is required for government revenue, and its not consensual.

in America its possible in law for people to choose not to work, while having others who freely choose to work take care of them and their needs with welfare.

    Neither does the U.S.

Which countries are you talking about?

Thank you for pointing out a major source of our problems.

Would a simple increase in consumption, not lead to more demand that may require more supply?

Looking at supply and demand it would appear that we are capable of producing all the needs and wants of all of humanity with the only exception being employment.

One solution might be for government to require full employment, meaning that for every 2 productive employees a business must employee and pay one additional employee with the price of their products/services adjusted accordingly to maintain profitability. That, at least would result in everyone having to pay income taxes, eliminate the need for welfare, and although it would likely put many small businesses out of business requiring large corporations to add even more non-productive persons to their payroll and benefit programs it would shift the cost of supporting a growing population to the larger, and more productive corporations that remain in business while redistributing the spending of all with great demands on wage increases as a result of large price increases.

I didn't make a statement. As for quantifying it, the aggregate annual income and capital gains from all government-issued and -enforced privileges such as land titles, patents, copyrights, and bankster-issued debt money would be a good first approximation. Call it half of GDP.

Until everyone agrees to address the first major problem which is too many people, not enough jobs, the welfare problem cannot be resolved right now.

Why not? All we need do is solve for simple poverty and the capital effects of capitalism's, natural rate of unemployment. It can be accomplished in a market friendly manner, at the rock bottom cost of a form of minimum wage, and on an at-will basis in our at-will employment States.
