not every candidate will be present tonight for the first debate

but entertaining it will be..despite the parties leader not included

center stage will be rhonda santos...he will start out ok...but when forced to think , he will transform into bobblehead doll

chris christy will be wearing suspenders and slinging insults to the other contenders
he will be gunning for rhonda because he is an easy target...

asa hutchinson will have some common sense but will get little airtime because he will attempt to be a gentleman

vivek ramaswamy will be fast talking and defending trump and have wacky ideas like firing 75% of the government workers in his first year

Nikki haley will try to prove she is smarter than the boys and attempt to be profound when in fact she is just another wacky republican looking for the VP position to trump

tim scott will be doing his best obama impression. he will try to be cool

mike pence will say a prayer and make sure he at least keeps the flys off his head

and the other guy from north dakota is a no show but like trump not showing up will be a better position

it will be an entertaining ..and some will call it a clown show

    what say you??

I'm hoping Chris Christie leans into it and comes on stage with a pizza and just proceeds to eat slices while he's bashing Trump.

More than what the candidates say, I'm curious as to what the live audience boos and applauds. Since they are ringers, it will give you an idea of who Fox supports.

    gave me a good chuckle

christie may not bring the pizza on stage...but I would bet there is one waiting for him back stage

fox knows good TV and this will be similar to the start of a WWE smackdown ..

I dont think trump will get bashed badly...every one of these candidates want his voters and cannot win without them

sure they will all give some backhanded remarks..but none are going for the juggler of trump

kinda sad the Qaloons and trumpers will decide who will be the GOP nominee

Well Christie is in the race for the sole purpose of bashing Trump, so he will absolutely be doing Trump bashing, even if he's the only one.

christie is defiantly using kamikaze tactics on trump

my guess is his tactics will help desantos more than himself

maybe the GOP will have a rhonda santos/ chris christie ticket

Predictions? That every single one of them lies and misrepresents. And yes, the Dems will do the same thing.

My prediction is, it'll be boring AF, just like every other debate.

Watching it. Geez I think Doug Berghum might be winning just because he quietly says what he thinks and then shuts the fk up. I think these people may come to blows!

My prediction is that the debates are pointless. May as well just hold the RNC convention tonight and nominate the man many think will in the end be nominated. Trumps core supporters likely dwarf in numbers his opponents core supporters. As the field thins out I am willing to bet most will hitch their wagon to the Trump train.

Sociologist Jonathan Haidt whom I respect thinks DeSantis will win. DeSantas would likely have a much better chance at beating Biden. I know Biden has many negatives, but so does Trump, but DeSantis has fewer. If republicans go with Trump I think it will spell defeat as you loose too many independents like me by doing so. The MAGA crowd do not determine national elections… the real power is the independent voters and most of us do not like Trump or Biden.

I don't think Kennedy or Williamson will even get that far.

Pence: Out. Talks too much and doesn't adhere to the rules
    Ramaswamy: Out. What a child
Haley: I liked pretty much everything she said. Level headed and didn't let herself get sucked into a childish argument.
Christie: Out. Entertaining but no. Maybe a good VP choice if you are looking for an attack dog.
    Hutchinson: Out. Too old
Desantis: Meh. He needs to lighten up on abortion.
Scott: Out. I don't want a preacher for POTUS and although I like a lot of what he says, he suddenly breaks out in a sermon.
Burgum: Out. Not national material by a long shot.

Desantis seemed angry. But I think he did pretty well
Nicky Haley was good. But she's all in on giving more of our money to Ukraine.
Vivek I think defund Israel will be a deal breaker for many of us. Other than that, I like him.
Christie wasn't as combative as I expected. Maybe he saw the writing on the wall after getting booed at the beginning.
Pence was really combative and I don't think it did him any good, as his supporters mostly like him because they thought he wasn't. Also he's a walking advertisement for Trump, since everything "we did" actually Trump did.
    Asa...just no.
I think Berghum really kind of came to the forefront.
Tim Scott just didn't stand out for me. I like him but can you run simply on I-used-to-be-poor-but-look-at-me-now?

Christie disappointed me by not bringing that pizza on stage.
Scott: How is it that South Carolina produces TWO senators that seem less manly than Nikki Haley?
Haley: All war all the time
Pence: He's a Republican who not only doesn't know what time it is, he doesn't know what Century it is.
    DeSantis just did as expected.

I think there were others but they're not important.

While I am not predicting that he wins by any means, I would add that Ramaswamy looks like he is going to be relevant to the overall discussion.

If Trump were to get out for any reason, Ramaswamy seems like he might be the one to get the Trump devotees on his side. I could also see a situation where trump could name him as a running mate.

    Haley is clear the winner.

Vivek was good, energetic and confident, until his inexperience in foreign policy was exposed

Pence did ok, He is a man of principle.

    Christie did good.

DeSantis had his rehearsed lines, which he would offer when he had no answer to the actual questions

You are correct. I wrote that post in haste and am surprised I left him off.

With Ramaswamy on the stage, the IQ difference between him and every other candidate is glaring. He's literally the smartest guy in the room. Does that get him the Presidency? Unlikely, but it makes him a long term influential person.

I'd say that is a pretty decent analysis-I missed the first 25 minutes. Christie was the best debater. He avoided his weakness (as a GOP candidate) on the gun issue well. Your assessment of Pence was good-I don't see him as a viable contender though. I don't know if I saw Haley as the winner.

I'm not arguing against your opinion, just offering a few more points.
Clearly the winner to send another billion to Ukraine. Had a man utter the opposite sexist phrase she uttered he would have been roasted in the media and by dems. And by most republicans.
So all he needs in his administration is Washington DC foreign policy experts. That would mean more foreign aid.
Part of the DC swamp and if you look at the direction we're heading it's a reason not to vote for him.
He was good at getting even with Trump.
They all had rehearsed lines. DeSantis is no Reagan communicator but he is a man of action as his record proves.

This is someone else's post debate take:

The (nearly) Trump-less debate: RamaswamyGPT, DeSantis rises, Mean Mike Pence debuts

'Ramaswamy got attacked because he engaged in artless personal insults, although one does have to admit that Mike Pence started it. Ramaswamy had declared that only a new generation could fix what the generation on stage had broken, to which Pence responded by insulting Ramaswamy more directly.'

'Almost immediately, Ramaswamy didn’t attack the new Mean Mike Pence but everyone, calling them “super-PAC puppets” while calling himself “a patriot who speaks the truth” and the leader of a “revolution.” Later, he accused Nikki Haley of auditioning for the board of Raytheon, a rather ironic accusation considering Ramaswamy’s own position as a wealthy rookie. “I’m the only person on stage who isn’t bought and paid for,” he said a few moments later, leading to a cascade of boos from the audience, which prompted Chris Christie into attacking him for his amateurish Trump impression:'

And Christie's right about Ramaswarmy sounding like ChatGPT. That is exactly what he sounded like.

They talked about that line “I’m the only person on stage who isn’t bought and paid for,” on The Five today. Gutfield asked Perino who the audience was made up of, and she said GOP donors. Which kind of made the point on who had done the buying and paying.

    Sexist? She was quoting Thatcher.

Usually presidents surround themselves with people who agree with their views, so I don't think that would halp much

So, the Governor of Indiana is DC Swamp? I dont think it makes sense to slap labels to everyone you dont like.

He was good at debating the topic as opposed to offering rehearsed lines.

He is all about culture wars and using government to enforce his moral code. They could have asked him why Florida inflation is three times the national level, or why he thinks its ok to threaten schools, or why its ok to fire elected officials and replace them with political activists, but they didn't challenge him on anything.
