Dem Rep. Kathy Dahlkemper: I Wouldn't Have Voted for Obamacare If I'd Known About HHS Regulation


Former Democratic congresswoman Kathy Dahlkemper, a Catholic from Erie, Pennsylvania, cast a crucial vote in favor of Obamacare in 2010. She lost her seat that November in part because of her controversial support of Obamacare. But Dahlkemper said recently that she would have never voted for the health care bill had she known that the Department of Health and Human Services would require all private insurers, including Catholic charities and hospitals, to provide free coverage of contraception, sterilization procedures, and the "week-after" pill "ella" that can induce early abortions.


"I would have never voted for the final version of the bill if I expected the Obama Administration to force Catholic hospitals and Catholic Colleges and Universities to pay for contraception,” Dahlkemper said in a press release sent out by Democrats for Life in November. "We worked hard to prevent abortion funding in health care and to include clear conscience protections for those with moral objections to abortion and contraceptive devices that cause abortion. I trust that the President will honor the commitment he made to those of us who supported final passage."

Of course, most abortion opponents disagree with Dahlkemper that the HHS regulation is Obamacare's only moral problem. Under Obamacare, each state's federally subsidized health care exchange is required to offer a health insurance plan that covers elective abortions unless the state passes a law opting out of the requirement.

Perhaps, Democrats should have actually read the bill that they passed into law? I have a better idea. Let's replace these politicians with people who will read the bills.

I suspect there are a lot of Democrats in both house that wish they hadsn't voted for ObamaCare. Having voted for ObamaCare makes one an Obama lapdog and now he/she is irretrievably tied too Obama in November.

No one reads the bills before voting. It's how we got the Patriot Act and this stupid thing. I'm sooooooooooo glad she says this now that we are stuck with it or whatever stupid thing they replace it with.

Dahlkemper was the rep from my district. It's sad to see she supports exemptions for religious institutions not to follow the law like others have to because they hide behind the bible.

 

Yeah, but at least Obama kept his promise to revise the Patriot Act to increase oversight. Oops, I forgot- he renewed and expanded the Patriot Act.

Yeah and I think her self-imposed ignorance (aka STUPIDITY) is pervasive in the Democrat party these days.

 

Let's be honest: the furthering of the Democratic Party agenda relies on ignorance. Take the unemployment rate, for example. An Obama victory needs people to be ignorant about how the rate is calculated. It counts on people not knowing that for every person that got a job, four gave up.

If you didn't read the bill (which is really what her job description is), it takes brass to come back with "I didn't know".

 

I got a problem with people who spend $millions to get to Washington as our representatives and then don't know what's in a BILL before they sign off on it. That's dereliction of duty. I got an even bigger problem with representatives who say "I didn't know".

 

She wasn't the only one who got snookered. Pelosi should have been run out of town when she said, "You will find out what's in it after we pass it." How many of you would purchase a car after the salesman says to you...."Just pay me the money, and you will find out later how many miles it has on it and if it's in good mechanical shape...or not?" Well, all the Dem House members who march in lockstep with their leadership did just that. And to the detriment of the entire nation. Obamacare was designed to be a Trojan Horse that would lead to single payer, which is what Obama really wants.

Our only chance of undoing this horrible thing thrust on us, is to vote Romney/Ryan in November.

They all deserve to get voted out. The only thing bipartisan about Obamacare was the opposition to it.

 

So do 63 other Democrats that got unceremoniously tossed out on their backsides in 2010.
